15 Years Later, Bruce Willis’ ‘Lethal Weapon’ Replacement Is a Free Streaming Hit

Bruce Willis is one of the most famous action stars of his generation, but near the end of his career, he starred in a Lethal Weapon/Rush Hour dupe that’s having a moment on streaming. 15 years ago, Willis starred opposite Tracy Morgan in Cop Out, the buddy cop comedy following two older cops who hunt down a stolen baseball card from a memorabilia-obsessed thief. Cop Out recently began streaming for free on Tubi in America, where it’s quickly become one of the top 10 most popular movies on the platform at the time of writing.

For those who don’t have a Tubi account, Cop Out is also available to rent or purchase for only a few dollars on VOD platforms like Prime Video and Fandango at Home. Although Cop Out drew comparisons to Lethal Weapon upon its release, the film was quickly panned by critics and audiences, earning Rotten Tomatoes scores of 18% and 39% on the aggregate site. The film, which also stars Adam Brody, did gross $55 million against a $30 million budget, though. It avoided becoming a complete financial disaster despite its poor reviews.

Rob and Mark Cullen wrote the script for Cop Out, and Kevin Smith directed the film. Smith is best known for his work on DC’s CW superhero franchise, where he directed several episodes of both Supergirl and The Flash between 2015 and 2018. He also worked with Ben Affleck on a number of his films, including in 2019 with the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, the buddy comedy action film that’s currently streaming for free on Tubi and Pluto TV.

Where Is ‘Die Hard’ Streaming This Christmas?

Bruce Willis’ 1988 action film, Die Hard, is widely loved and celebrated as one of the best action movies ever made. Debates still ring to this day about whether the film is a true Christmas movie, but there’s no better time to revisit it than this holiday season. Good news for fans — Die Hard has five streaming homes at the time of writing. The film is available to watch on Disney+, Hulu, Prime Video, Peacock, and it’s even streaming for free on the Roku Channel. The sequel, Die Hard 2, is also streaming on Disney+ and Hulu, along with Live Free or Die Hard.

Be sure to check out Cop Out for free on Tubi and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
