A canceled AMC sci-fi comedy series has been revived by Fox’s free streaming platform, Tubi. With a script from Tearrance Arvelle Chisholm, Demascus was executive produced by Better Call Saul executive producer Mark Johnson, Myki Bajaj, and Kirk A. Moore, who also serves as the showrunner.
The comedic, genre-fluid, coming-of-age series follows a 33-year-old Black man who navigates the field of digital psychiatry while trying to discover his truest self, and stars Okieriete Onaodowan as Demascus, alongside Janet Hubert, Caleb Eberhardt, Shakira Ja’nai Paye, and Martin Lawrence. Despite having finished production, the series was axed by AMC in 2023 due to company-wide cost-cutting measures.
Now, thanks to a deal between AMC Networks and Tubi, Demascus will soon arrive on the Fox-owned free streamer as a Tubi Original, according to Deadline. The six-part series will premiere on August 7 as the latest original series for the service.

Demascus Is Part Of Tubi’s Expansion On Original Content
Demascus was initially ordered in 2022 as AMC’s original series alongside Invitation to a Bonfire. However, the series was canceled before it arrived on the streaming platform. During the company’s 2023 cost-cutting move, both series were cancelled in addition to reversing the decision to renew Moonhaven.
Demascus‘ arrival on Tubi is no doubt great news for fans of sci-fi comedy, especially with Tubi being a free streaming platform that doesn’t require a paid subscription. The platform, supported by advertising, is home to a wide range of movies and TV with content from major studios, including Fox, Warner Bros., and HBO.

From Peacock’s Resident Alien to Apple TV+’s Murderbot to Prime Video’s Gen V, there has been a resurgence in sci-fi comedies. Demascus‘ arrival is no doubt very timely for the Fox-owned free streaming platform. While the series was delayed for two years, the deal has offered viewers the chance to finally watch the new series.
Tubi’s revival of Demascus also signals hope for shows that have been cancelled due to budget cuts and other unforeseen reasons. While there is no word about Invitation to a Bonfire, perhaps the psychological thriller that was inspired by the co-dependent marriage of famed Russian novelist Vladimir Nabokov and his wife will also find a new home one day.
