‘The Righteous Gemstones’ (2019 – 2025)
Created by and starring Danny McBride, The Righteous Gemstones is a crime comedy-drama series that follows a dysfunctional family of popular televangelists. Led by patriarch Eli Gemstone (John Goodman), the family runs a highly lucrative business that capitalizes on faith to fund their opulent lifestyles, but the younger Gemstones’ immaturity and reckless behavior constantly threaten to destroy their family empire. The show stars Adam DeVine, Edi Patterson, Tony Cavalero, Cassidy Freeman, Gregory Alan Williams, and Tim Baltz in key roles.
The Righteous Gemstones was quite favorably received when it first premiered in 2019, and the series showed significant improvement over the course of its run, ending with a universally acclaimed fourth season in May 2025. From megachurches and Christian militias, the show explores every aspect of Christianity in America, no matter how difficult or controversial, drawing great humor from the performances of its star cast. The series is a darkly funny satire that’s sharply written and masterfully put together, and it has earned numerous accolades, including four Emmy nominations.

‘The Penguin’ (2024)
A spin-off of the 2022 movie The Batman, The Penguin is an eight-episode crime drama miniseries based on the titular DC Comics character. Developed by Lauren LeFranc, the series stars Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobb (also known as the Penguin), chronicling his rise to the top of Gotham City’s criminal underworld in the wake of the events from the film. The show also stars Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown, Carmen Ejogo, Michael Zegen, Mark Strong, and more in notable roles.
The Penguin premiered in September 2024 to a highly positive critical and fan reception, earning praise for its gritty narrative and stellar performances, especially those of Farrell and Milioti, whose Sofia Falcone turned out to be the show’s breakout star. It’s a thrilling crime drama that takes inspiration from gangster classics like The Godfather and The Sopranos, and with just eight episodes, it’s the perfect pick if you’re in the mood to binge-watch a great crime show over the weekend.

‘The Rehearsal’ (2022 – Present)
A unique blend of reality and comedy, The Rehearsal is a docu-comedy series created, written, directed by, and starring Nathan Fielder. The series follows Fielder as he attempts to help ordinary people rehearse difficult conversations and life events — no matter how trivial — using over-the-top sets and hired actors to recreate real situations. The second season focuses largely on air safety and airline pilots, culminating in a monumental season finale that sees Fielder fly a Boeing 737 to the Nevada border and back.
The Rehearsal was very well-received when it first came out in 2022, and the reviews shot sky-high with Season 2, which premiered in April 2025. A universally acclaimed absurdist comedy series anchored on Fielder’s signature brand of cringe comedy, the show is a hilarious watch that puts the comedian and his scene partners through audacious and ridiculous situations. The show has earned multiple accolades, especially with its second season, including three Emmy Award nominations.
