34 scariest horror movies on Netflix (updated October 2023)

Storm Reid in Screen Gems MISSING

Halloween is knocking on the door and that means it’s time to start binge-watching scary movies and holiday-centric titles! Luckily for Netflix subscribers, there are plenty of scary movies on Netflix to watch this time of year, though sadly Netflix doesn’t have many new titles on the docket for this year and skipped out on its annual “Netflix and Chills” lineup.

On the plus side, there are some classic films available along with at least a couple of new ones coming later this month, like the Verónica prequel film Sister Death.

If you’re hankering to start watching scary stuff as a countdown to Halloween, then there are choices for those who want to be scared out of their wits and for families looking for something nice to watch together!

We’ll start our list of the scariest movies on Netflix with a Jordan Peele movie!

Get Out (2017)

  • Directed by: Jordan Peele
  • Cast: Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Bradley Whitford, Caleb Landry Jones, Stephen Root, and Catherine Keener

Jordan Peele has been a very successful writer and actor in the entertainment industry for a long time, but his directorial debut with the acclaimed horror film Get Out was a huge success for the filmmaker that helped make him a break out and a household name among horror fans.

Since the success of Get Out, he’s earned legions of dedicated fans eager to see what he’ll come up with next. Netflix recently added some of Peele’s movies to its catalog for Halloween, so if you’ve never seen Get Out or just want to revisit it, now is the time to jump at the opportunity! Because Get Out is not a Netflix Original, it probably won’t be available on the streamer for long. Watch it before it’s gone.

Get Out follows a young couple, Rose (Allison Williams) and Chris (Daniel Kaluuya). Rose is excited to introduce Chris to his parents, but there is some nervousness for both of them due to their interracial relationship. At first, Rose’s parents are almost too nice and then the horrific truth begins to emerge.
