4 craziest theories fans have for You season 4 part 2

You, much like Stranger Things, has become one of Netflix’s most popular series, leading the fourth season to be divided into two parts and leaving us impatiently waiting to see how Joe will handle the “Eat the Rich” killer.

Following the events of part 1 and the trailer for You season 4 part 2, fans have taken to Reddit to discuss theories. With the first watch-through, there are clues that can easily be missed, but the official trailer for the second half of the season challenges fans to put on their thinking caps.

Love (Victoria Pedretti), who died in the last season, makes an appearance in the upcoming episodes. So, with that in mind, what crazy theories may come true in You season 4 part 2?

Is Love is alive and working with Rhys in You season 4 part 2?

Love appears in the official trailer for You season 4 part 2 in the glass cage reading Rhys’ book. When Rhys speaks at Simon’s funeral, he reads from a book written by Joan Didion, the same author that Love recommended to Joe in season 2. While Nadia was listing off whodunnit elements, she explained to Joe that “there are no coincidences,” so this could mean that Love has some connection to Rhys.

Is Rhys is Joe’s Tyler Durden and part of his psyche?

This theory has been coming in hot all over Reddit, and there is evidence to support this claim. At the dinner table, when Joe responds to Rhys, Roald looks in his direction and asks, “What was that?” This could be a subtle way to show what Joe’s conversations with Rhys look like to everyone else.

During both Malcolm and Simon’s murders, Joe was unconscious nearby, with Malcolm’s body directly in his apartment. He also has Malcolm’s ring in his pocket that was taken by “Rhys.” Gemma’s murder disproves this theory, but her murderer may not be related to the “Eat the Rich” killer; no body part or jewelry was removed from her, and others have motive to kill her.

If Rhys is part of Joe’s psyche, then it makes sense that Love would also appear, therefore explaining the similarities of his relationship with Rhys and with Love. The official trailer for part 2 also showcases a scene in which Joe looks like he’s on trial, which would further the theory that Joe is suffering from some sort of psychosis.

Could Love have poisoned Joe and this is all a dream?

If Love won their fight in the season 3 finale but decided to keep Joe alive inside the cage, then this could explain why Joe seems to be reliving certain scenarios. To begin, Joe has a clear view of Kate and Malcolm much like his view of Benji and Beck in season 1, even including the sexual frustration of Kate/Beck.

To follow that, Joe’s absinthe-soaked night shares many similarities to the night that Forty dosed him with LSD both ending with the discovery of a body. Waking up to Malcolm’s body and trying to piece memories together is much like discovering Delilah dead in his cage in season 2. Additionally, Roald is Peach’s counterpart with the obsessive collection of intimate photos of Kate much like Peach’s intimate Beck collection.

As mentioned above, Love seems to have some connection to Rhys, and this could also explain the reference to Joan Didion. It is also worth noting that Joe has a new identity that magically fell into his lap by someone hired by… you guessed it: the Quinns. It seems like a long shot that this would be at all realistic, which leaves fans wondering if it may not have been real at all and merely an idea planted in him by Love while sedated.

If everything is real as we’ve seen it, will Joe will battle Rhys?

Although this is the simplest theory, it may actually seem like the craziest because of all of the evidence otherwise. It would allow multiple coincidences in a whodunnit narrative that does not allow coincidences. But it is also a possibility and these coincidences could be the result of an unreliable narrator. This theory could support Love being alive or a hallucination because she has yet to appear in the new season. But the likelihood of her being a hallucination is more probable because we did see her death. In this case, part 2 will focus on Joe vs. Rhys with Joe’s guilty conscience shining through.
