A Forgotten Jurassic Park Hero Never Gets The Credit They Deserve

The bravest hero in the Jurassic Park franchise is a character who was largely forgotten immediately after his death. The Jurassic Park franchise has seen its fair share of heroic characters who have helped others survive encounters with the deadly dinosaurs.

Alan Grant (Sam Neill) made for a grounded hero to the young kids in the first Jurassic Park, while Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) was a more cliché action hero in the Jurassic World movies. Now the characters of Jurassic World Rebirth will add more heroes to the franchise, including Zora Bennett (Scarlet Johansson) and Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali).

However, there is one character who performed the most heroic act in the entire Jurassic Park franchise, and yet never gets the credit that he deserves. With fans revisiting the franchise in anticipation of the new movie, it is time for Eddie Carr (Richard Schiff) to be celebrated as the franchise’s most selfless hero.

Eddie Carr Died A Hero In The Lost World: Jurassic Park

Eddie Fought Off Two T-Rex While Trying To Save His Friends

Eddie Carr is one of the supporting characters in the underrated Jurassic Park sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Eddie is a field equipment expert who joins Ian Malcolm’s (Jeff Goldblum) rescue team to travel to the island of Isla Sorna. Of course, this operation is immediately put in danger.

The massive dinosaurs push the RV over the side of a cliff, leaving it to dangle precariously as Ian and the others are trapped inside. Lucky for them, Eddie arrives and leaps into action.

While Eddie is looking after Ian’s daughter, Kelly (Vanessa Lee Chester), the rest of the team in their RV are attacked by two Tyrannosaurus rex. The massive dinosaurs push the RV over the side of a cliff, leaving it to dangle precariously as Ian and the others are trapped inside. Lucky for them, Eddie arrives and leaps into action.

He uses his jeep to attempt to pull the RV to safety, only for the two T-Rex to return. Instead of trying to save himself, Eddie continues trying to pull his friends to safety even as the T-Rex spots him. He desperately fights as the dinosaurs begin attacking his jeep and eventually kill Eddie in gruesome fashion.

Every Jurassic Park Movie’s Most Dangerous Dinosaur

Each of the Jurassic Park movies has one dinosaur that stands out as the most intimidating of the prehistoric monsters.

Eddie’s heroic efforts are only briefly mentioned as Ian chastizes Roland Tembo (Pete Postlethwaite) for his careless reference to Eddie’s death, saying, “You might show a little more respect, the man saved our lives by giving his.” However, that is the last mention Eddie gets in the Jurassic Park franchise.

Eddie’s Death Is One Of The Most Gruesome In Any Jurassic Park Movie

Eddie’s Demise Compares To Other Brutal Jurassic Park Deaths

Adding to the unfairness of Eddie Carr’s demise, his heroics only lead to him having one of the most gruesome deaths in the Jurassic Park franchise. Despite a valiant effort, one of the T-Rex grabs Eddie’s leg, then tosses him in the air so the other can catch him. They both proceed to rip his body in half, eating what’s left.

It is a graphic end for such a heroic character and one that sticks with audiences. However, while the Jurassic Park movies are pretty good at thrilling audiences without being too gory, there are some brutal death scenes in these movies that even compete with Eddie’s end.

Jurassic World Rebirth Is The First Jurassic Park Movie I’ve Truly Felt Excited About Since Jurassic Park 3 For One Big Reason

As a lifelong fan of the Jurassic Park franchise, Jurassic World Rebirth is finally bringing back the excitement I haven’t felt since Jurassic Park 3.

In The Lost World, Dieter (Peter Stormare) gets attacked by a pack of the tiny Compsognathus, with the image of one pulling at his lip particularly memorable. While we don’t see his actual death, we get the gruesome description from Roland, reporting they only found “the parts they didn’t like.”

However, the most infamous death in the Jurassic Park franchise was that of Zara (Katie McGrath) in Jurassic World. A fairly innocent assistant, Zara is subjected to a prolonged end. She is first snatched by a Pteranodon, dropped, caught by another one, dropped again in the park pool, grabbed by another Pteranodon, only to be eaten by the Mosasaurus.
