Apple TV+’s Underrated Sci-Fi Series Rises On Streaming Charts

Apple TV+ is steadily diversifying its portfolio. Known at one point for star-driven limited series and sci-fi epics, the platform is carving out space for itself in the comedy space. Platonic and The Studio are among most of the well-liked comedies of the year. The platform is already fortifying the ranks of its returning dramas, with The Morning Show, Slow Horses, and Presumed Innocent.

But despite the early positive buzz around new comedies like Owen Wilson’s Stick and Vince Vaughn’s Bad Monkey, it’s hard to deny Apple’s specific focus on sci-fi. Between originals like Severance and Silo, to Dark Matter and For All Mankind, there is variance within the genre itself. That’s further proved by a returning original, which has maintained interest.

Invasion season 3 debuted August 22 on Apple TV+, and it’s already climbing the charts. Co-created by David Weil and Simon Kinberg, the sci-fi drama first debuted in October 2021. Invasion begins with Earth being visited by aliens that threaten humanity’s existence. The resulting conflict unfolds through the eyes of five ordinary people spread across the globe.

With an Invasion cast that includes Golshifteh Farahani, Shioli Kutsuna, Shamier Anderson, India Brown, Shane Zaza, and Enver Gjokaj, and introduces new series regular Erika Alexander, it’s revealed by FlixPatrol that season 3 is currently in the Top 10 in 99 countries and territories. That includes the U.S., where the show has remained in the Top 5 since its premiere.

Following the season 2 finale, the new installment sees the sci-fi’s characters having to put aside complex relationships to stop the increasing alien threat. On the whole, the Apple TV+ Original has drawn mixed reviews. Invasion currently sits at 57% on Rotten Tomatoes for the first two seasons, but it has developed a strong following. Based on its recent rankings, It may have even picked up some new viewers.
