Before Winning Oscars, Emma Stone Delivered Her Funniest Role Ever in This Underrated Classic Sitcom

If you know Emma Stone today, it’s probably as an Oscar winner, indie darling, and one of the most versatile performers in Hollywood. But back in 2012, before she was Bella Baxter in Poor Things or dancing through La La Land, Stone made an appearance that still makes fans do a double-take: her unhinged, one-episode guest role on iCarly.

Yes, really. The then-future Cruella star once played an iCarly superfan so chaotic she had to be dragged out of a diner by employees — and it remains one of the funniest, most unexpected moments of her career and the children’s show.

Emma Stone Was Already a Movie Star When She Appeared on ‘iCarly’

iCarly wasn’t hurting for famous cameos. During its six-season run from 2007 to 2012, the Nickelodeon sitcom welcomed everyone from One Direction to Michelle Obama. Stone had only joined the ranks of majorly recognizable guest stars on the show. By the time the Season 6 episode “iFind Spencer Friends” aired, Stone had already starred in Easy A, The Help, The Amazing Spider-Man, and Crazy, Stupid, Love. She wasn’t an unknown getting her start — she was a movie star choosing to geek out on a kids’ sitcom she genuinely loved.

The cameo happened after Stone told creator Dan Schneider at a Saturday Night Live afterparty that she was a huge iCarly fan. He invited her to drop by the show, and she jumped at the chance.

Emma Stone’s ‘iCarly’ Cameo Character, Heather, Was Full Chaos

Stone plays Heather, an iCarly superfan who spots Carly, Sam, Freddie, and Spencer at a diner. What follows is pure Nickelodeon chaos: Heather drops her drink, shrieks “Oh my god, it’s iCarly!”, forces selfies with everyone (including climbing into Sam’s lap), and even barges into the men’s room to snag a photo with Gibby.

The gag ends with Heather leaping onto a table before being hauled away by diner staff — and Stone goes all in. Wild facial expressions, unhinged delivery, and zero self-consciousness. It’s a reminder that her comedic timing, first spotted in Superbad and Easy A, has always been razor-sharp. Even Jennette McCurdy later recalled how much fun it was to have Stone on set, calling her “gorgeous and hilarious.”

Looking back, the cameo is even funnier given where Stone’s career went. Since then, she’s built a reputation as one of the most versatile actors of her generation, with roles ranging from the dreamer Mia in La La Land to the eccentric Bella Baxter in Poor Things. Critics praise her ability to slip between quirky, heartfelt, and complex characters.

But Heather in iCarly proves she’s never been afraid to lean into comedy — or make fun of herself. It’s the kind of role most Oscar winners wouldn’t want on their résumé, but for Stone, it’s just another highlight of a career built on surprising choices.

If Nickelodeon ever revives Heather in the show’s upcoming movie, somehow, fans would likely lose their minds. Until then, fans can reflect, a perfect time capsule of when one of Hollywood’s biggest stars let loose on one of TV’s goofiest shows.
