The Phoenician Scheme is finally winding down its theatrical run after grossing $35 million at the worldwide box office, but the film just got easier for everyone to watch, even at home. Universal Pictures has officially announced that The Phoenician Scheme is now available to rent or purchase on digital platforms like Prime Video or Fandango at Home. To celebrate the news, Collider has even partnered with the studio to bring you an exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette showing director Wes Anderson sing the praises of leading star Benicio del Toro, and also explain how he settled on casting a relative newcomer among a roster of stars like Mia Threapleton. The featurette, along with information about the film’s digital release, can be found below.
In addition to del Toro and Threapleton, Anderson recruited a star-studded roster of talent to bring The Phoenician Scheme to life, though this isn’t uncommon for the director. Michael Cera, Riz Ahmed, Tom Hanks, and Bryan Cranston can also be seen in The Phoenician Scheme, but they’re far from the only talent. Jeffrey Wright, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rupert Friend, and Hope Davis also have roles in the latest film from Wes Anderson, who wrote and directed with help from Roman Coppola for the story. Anderson recently won his first Oscar in 2024 for his work on The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, the live-action short starring the aforementioned Benedict Cumberbatch, but he also worked with many stars from The Phoenician Scheme a few years ago on Asteroid City. Anderson has been nominated for Oscars seven other times in his career, most of which came on The Grand Budapest Hotel.
What Is Wes Anderson’s Highest-Grossing Movie?
The highest-grossing movie of Wes Anderson’s career is The Grand Budapest Hotel, the 2014 film that grossed $163 million at the global box office. Most of this ($103 million) came from international earnings. Following behind it in second place, nearly $100 million behind is The Royal Tenenbaums, which wrapped up its run in theaters after grossing $71 million globally. The film had a much different split than The Grand Budapest Hotel, though, earning $52 million of its $71 million haul in domestic markets.
The Phoenician Scheme is now available to rent or purchase on digital platforms like Prime Video and Fandango at Home. Check out the new featurette above and stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of the film.
