Apple TV’s dystopian sci-fi series is returning for season 3 this summer, so this is the perfect time to catch up on what’s happening in the show. Apple TV is where to go for the latest and greatest sci-fi TV shows with new seasons of Pluribus, Severance, Foundation, and more filling its widening library.
A streamer on the younger side, Apple TV has taken some time to find its footing when it comes to original television programming. You can see this in the shows that managed to survive past one or two seasons. Apple doesn’t mind taking its time in between seasons, so some shows can look very different just between a season or two.
Silo joins the ranks of the great Apple TV sci-fi series despite a bit of a rocky start. Season 1 is not bad by any means, but the story does need to work its way through a complex setup before it gets going. Season 2 is allowed to breathe and is all the better for it. Now, season 3 and season 4 are on the way.
The series is set in a future after some event made the Earth uninhabitable. Now, the survivors live in massive, city-sized towers called silos where they are bound by fierce regulations that are supposedly meant to protect them. Rebecca Ferguson stars as Juliette Nichols, an engineer who works in the poor section of the silo.
Why Silo Is Worth Binge-Watching Before The Show Returns For Season 3
Silo is a carefully crafted, well-produced science fiction series with an incredible cast, including Ferguson, Rashida Jones, David Oyelowo, Tim Robbins, Harriet Walter, and Avi Nash. While the first season takes some time to unspool its mystery and set up the story, it rewards viewers with compelling drama and thrills.
Season 2 is a huge step-up in the story, and the ending is an exciting lead-in to season 3. Silo seasons 3 and 4 were both announced at the same time, and it was also revealed that Silo season 4 would be the final season of the series. We have one of those rare things in modern streaming: a TV show with a set ending that still has plenty of episodes to offer.
Knowing that there is a definite stop to the series makes investing in a binge more worthwhile, and with season 3 set to premiere on Friday, July 3, it’s the perfect time to catch up on it. Even if you take your time, you should finish all 20 episodes by the season 3 premiere and then be ready for season 4 when that comes around.
How Silo Is Different Than Apple TV’s Other Sci-Fi Shows
Silo definitely has some elements of other shows, like Fallout and Severance, but it stands out from the usual sci-fi fare for a few reasons. The contained, claustrophobic nature of the series is particularly harrowing, and unlike Fallout, there aren’t many opportunities for the characters to escape.
Everyone in Silo seems to be suffering as well. While there is certainly an element of upper class versus lower class, even the upper classes are still forced to suffer in these silos. This makes for less of an “us vs them” storyline and instead replaces it with one where we can focus on just the mystery.
