Black Clover Season 5 Story, Characters, & Everything We Know So Far

Having aired its last episode back in the spring of 2021, fans of Black Clover weren’t sure when they’d be able to see the continuation of Asta’s journey. Now that a new season has officially been announced, excitement is reinvigorated for the franchise, refreshing questions about what adventures lie next and what new faces we will meet, among other news.

Black Clover began back in 2018 and would release episodes weekly, like many popular shōnen titles at the time. While the new season would technically be considered season 2 for Black Clover, fans also dub it season 5, having divided the story’s major beats and arcs to make them easier to distinguish.

With the anime back on track in Studio Pierrot’s production and scheduling, Black Clover will likely follow in the footsteps of its counterparts in terms of releasing seasonally rather than returning to a weekly setup. Having found success in adapting Bleach’s Thousand-Year Blood War by seasons, the animation and pacing have seen a tremendous improvement and widespread acclaim.

The creator behind the original manga, Yuki Tabata, has already expressed his excitement regarding the return of the anime and promises that the animation has been ‘powered up’ to rival the expectations set by fans. This dedication can only secure a successful return for a great shōnen anime that’s been left on the back burner for far too long.

Latest News On Black Clover’s Season 5 Production and Release Date

During Crunchyroll’s panel for Anime Expo 2025, it was confirmed after mass speculation and rumors that Black Clover was back in production and shared both a teaser trailer and special visual art to tide fans over. However, a release date for Black Clover’s season 5 has not been officially announced as of this writing.

Without a specific date and time to look forward to, the anime’s audience is once again left in anticipated suspense, but at least there’s a project to look forward to eventually. Luckily, Tabata has been supplying fans with new chapters in the manga and has even promised that the anime adaptation will look even better than it did before.

Although it’s not certain when Black Clover’s anime will return exactly, fans can take solace that the adaptation is in good hands with a refreshed Pierrot working on bringing some of the best the series has to offer for its next debut. Even other creators are excited for Black Clover, showcasing celebratory artworks following the 10th anniversary of Tabata’s work.

Where Black Clover last left off in its previous season, Asta had just cemented his contract with Liebe in episode #170 as part of his training to unlock his true potential as an antimagic mage. This lands the anime currently in the midst of the Spade Kingdom Raid Arc that encompasses chapters #261-331, approximately.

With Liebe and Asta now on the same page through their bond and equal contract, the first major highlight fans can expect is Nacht’s performance in battle as he steps up to test the new duo for more training. Likewise, Yuno will also begin training with Langris as everyone prepares for the raid against the Spade Kingdom and Clove’s preservation.

Elsewhere, the Dark Triad prepare their ritual to open a gateway to the underworld, an event that could lead to countless Devils spreading across the lands and causing mass hysteria and chaos. The confrontation against the Spade Kingdom will introduce some notorious Devils from the underworld, one of whom has a connection to Noelle’s past.

Black Clover’s next installment isn’t just a return to Asta’s misadventures, but the setup for a great number of fights and confrontations. With Asta and Yuno’s next power-ups just around the corner and worthwhile payoffs that have been years in the making, season 5 of Black Clover is one shōnen project that anime fans aren’t going to want to miss.

Since season 5 of Black Clover is likely to pick up in the middle of everyone’s training sessions, we’re likely to see many familiar faces, such as Asta, Liebe, Nacht, Yuno, Noelle, and the Captains, just to start with. But some of the most exciting entries are undoubtedly going to be the Dark Triad and their respective Devils.

Dante, Vanica, and Zenon, alongside Lucifero, Megicula, and Beelzebub, will become some of the toughest foes that Black Clover’s heroes have had to face thus far. Moris also makes an appearance, having turned to the Spade Kingdom after being banished from Diamond. Two other twin Devils, known as Lilith and Nahamah, will also be tough foes before reaching Lucifero.

The Black Bulls, especially, will see a special spotlight as they all gather to embark on the quest to save their captain from the clutches of the Dark Triad before it’s too late.

Where Can Fans Expect To Catch Black Clover’s Season 5 Return?

When it was originally airing weekly, Black Clover’s latest episodes could be streamed through Crunchyroll, but ever since 2021, Netflix has become a popular contender for anime fans to turn to if they didn’t have subscriptions to Crunchyroll. Black Clover’s returning audience will likely be able to turn to these two platforms for catching up on the latest episode installments.

Currently, Netflix and Crunchyroll both have Black Clover included in their catalogue, although Crunchyroll has many of the episodes locked under Premium access and does not have the latest film, Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King. Thus far, Netflix is looking like the prime place to be, but Crunchyroll is often faster with getting the latest episode posted.

With news only just beginning to circulate around Black Clover’s return, there’s sure to be more updates in the future regarding when season 5’s release date will be, how many episodes it’ll produce, as well as how much Studio Pierrot will cover. Keep checking back in for all the latest information as we excitedly await Black Clover’s comeback.
