Bloodborne 60fps Remaster Is Everything We Ever Wanted

Despite another State of Play event being behind us, there is still no news of what we have all been waiting for. We may have received news of a brand-new God of War spin-off game titled God of War: Laufey, and we are all curious about what Until Dawn 2 will entail, but despite the excitement, Bloodborne fans were left to wipe off their clown makeup and wait for the next major game’s showcase once again.

It may be one of the most beloved video games of all time, but Bloodborne is firmly stuck under Sony’s control, with the FromSoftware title remaining a PlayStation exclusive to this day. First released on the PlayStation 4, Bloodborne may be accessible on the PlayStation 5 thanks to backwards compatibility, but with no next-gen patch, players can expect to experience an unoptimized experience. Not only that, but with no news of a remake, remaster, sequel, or even a PC port, Bloodborne remains one of gaming’s biggest heartbreaks.

With Bloodborne still being capped at 30fps, fans have at least been calling out for the 60fps sweet spot, and although Sony is not delivering the goods officially, there is finally a way to enjoy the FromSoftware magnum opus in its best state yet.

Showcased earlier this year on the Digital Foundry YouTube account, we can see Bloodborne in all its 60fps glory thanks to a PC emulator known as ShadPS4. “Following a breakthrough in PS4 emulation via ShadPS4, Bloodborne is now fully playable start to finish with 60 frames per second in view,” the video description reads. “Fan mods also allow the PC version to go the extra mile with new features: improved shadows, lighting, and even antialiasing – in theory showing us what an official remaster could end up looking like.”

In the showcase, we can see Bloodborne not only running on the PC, but also running at an impressive 60fps, and it is clear to see how much of an improvement it is on the original 2015 title. Additionally, thanks to modder fromsoftserve, Bloodborne PC can also enjoy some quality-of-life improvements and graphical enhancements for absolutely free, courtesy of their Bloodborne PC remaster. These improvements can also be seen in action in the Digital Foundry video.

Both the ShadPS4 emulator and fromsoftserve’s mod make Bloodborne the most accessible it has ever been, and fans were quick to take to the comments to share their thoughts.

“It is unbelievable to me that Sony has spent years and hundreds of millions of dollars developing failed live-service games while at the same time leaving Bloodborne stuck in the past at 1080p 30fps,” one user shared. Another user felt hopeful, adding, “Hoping this puts a little pressure on Sony to show this amazing game some love.”

At the time of writing, there is currently no news of Sony showing some love for Bloodborne in any capacity. However, we can at least be thankful that there is a way, albeit unofficially, to enjoy the hit FromSoftware title on PC.
