Ahsoka was set to have an Easter egg linking to Alec Guinness’ Obi-Wan Kenobi that was unfortunately cut, as revealed by C-3PO star Anthony Daniels.

Summary

  • Anthony Daniels reveals he wanted to honor Alec Guinness as C-3PO in Ahsoka, repeating an iconic line from A New Hope.
  • Daniels reportedly entered the New Republic Senate meeting by stating the line “You don’t need to see my identification” after Obi-Wan said the same in the original Star Wars.
  • A home release of Ahsoka could offer bonus features, including a chance for Daniels to see the scene in which he honored his old costar onscreen.

C-3PO star Anthony Daniels has revealed a cut Obi-Wan Kenobi Easter egg that was set to be part of Ahsoka. Daniels’ inclusion in Ahsoka was undoubtedly one of the series’ biggest surprises. With upcoming Star Wars TV shows set to further explore the New Republic era, it could well be the case that C-3PO’s time as an ally to Hera Syndulla continues. This would certainly offer another chance for an appearance in Ahsoka season 2’s story, with Daniels potentially getting another chance to sneak in an Alec Guinness Easter egg.

As revealed at Megacon 2024, via Popverse, Daniels intended to honor Guinness’ Kenobi upon his entrance to Ahsoka‘s New Republic Senate hearing. According to Daniels, he spoke to Dave Filoni about reciting one of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s most iconic lines from A New Hope. As C-3PO entered the room flanked by two guards, Daniels wished to have his protocol droid say the line “You don’t need to see my identification. Unfortunately, the line did not make it into the final cut of Ahsoka episode 7, ruining Daniels’ fun at honoring his old costar.

Will The Alec Guinness Scene Be Released?

The fact that the Alec Guinness Easter egg was removed from Ahsoka begs the question of whether it will ever be released. With Daniels now having mentioned the line, it could be the case that Lucasfilm includes the deleted scene as a special feature on a home release. Andor season 1 and Obi-Wan Kenobi have recently been announced for Blu-ray/4K UHD releases, meaning Ahsoka may not be far behind.

The special features for each of these releases are extensive, which Ahsoka could benefit from in the future. From deeper explorations of the crafting of the show to interviews with the cast, the bonus features of an Ahsoka home release could be fantastic. What’s more, Anthony Daniels may finally get his wish of honoring Alec Guinness onscreen should C-3PO’s subtle Easter egg be included in a deleted scene for Ahsoka season 1.
