'Chicago P.D.' Season 13 Premiere Images Finally Reveal the Fate of Intelligence Unit

A month has passed between the Chicago P.D. Season 12 finale and the Season 13 premiere. During that period, many members of the unit were destabilized after their badges were taken away. However, Voight (Jason Beghe) has been working hard to get the team back together because he believes they are a net positive for the city. It’s not an easy task given Deputy Chief Reid’s (Shawn Hatosy) calculated plan to destroy them, but new images from the “Consequences” episode of the season tease a different outcome. The photos show the team in different scenes in the October 1 episode, but some tease an excellent outcome for them, especially Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar). The episode’s official logline reads:

Voight teams up with an unlikely ally to take a killer off the streets while fighting to bring his Intelligence unit back together.

Celebrate! ‘Chicago P.D.’s Intelligence Unit Lives to Fight Another Day

After the unit is disbanded, Voight is demoted to a different unit, as seen in the image above, where he’s wearing a police uniform. However, he’s not given up yet and can be seen in conversation with Commander Devlin (Joel Murray), possibly trying to make a case for his team being reinstated. Voight appears to have succeeded, as evidenced by some images showing him back together with his team in their bullpen, and he delivers great news. He hands a shocked Burgess her badge back, and she can’t believe she nearly lost the detective badge she’d worked so hard for. Torres also gets his back.

Meanwhile, there are cases to be solved, and the team dives into them. They can be seen in action as trailing a suspect. The case also puts them in touch with Eva Imani (Arienne Mandi), an ATF officer. “She comes in hot. In the first episode, she’s tracking a gun trafficker undercover, and we wind up trying to find the same offender, so we end up working together. And it’s great because she’s coming in without any prior knowledge of Voight, so she’s not intimidated by him,” showrunner Gwen Sigan said in an interview while introducing the character. “She’s not this green, brand-new cop. She’s been around and can be very honest with Voight right off the bat. We see her speak to him like he’s anybody else on the street. She’s a breath of fresh air.” After this latest brush with destruction, the unit and everyone in it will need to think carefully about what they want for their career.

Chicago P.D. returns on Wednesday, October 1. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
