Chris Pratt Names The MCU Multiverse Character He Wants Star-Lord To Meet Before Secret Wars Reboot

Chris Pratt’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still in question, but he knows exactly who he wants Star-Lord to meet before The Multiverse Saga comes to an end.

Pratt’s tenure in the multi-billion-dollar franchise kicked off with James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, playing the quippy leader of the eponymous cosmic superhero team. He would go on to reprise the role for both of Gunn’s sequels, as well as both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame and the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

Now, as audiences continue to wait for an answer about when he will be back, Chris Pratt shared with ScreenRant‘s Ash Crossan in an interview for his new sci-fi thriller Mercy what he hopes for his MCU future. In particular, when asked which character from the multiverse he’d like Star-Lord to meet before Avengers: Secret Wars ends The Multiverse Saga, the star pointed to Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, expressing his excitement for Marvel Studios now having access to the wide range of Fox IP:

Now, it seems Marvel Studios has access to IP that had been owned by previous studios before, including Fox. I really, really loved Deadpool. I think Ryan [Reynolds] GOAT-ed himself with that performance. He really nailed it. I would love to just be there for the process, even if I’m just a fly on the wall. So I’m going to say Deadpool.

Pratt’s Star-Lord was last seen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which served as both Gunn’s swan song in the MCU before heading off to become the co-CEO of DC Studios and launching the DC Universe, as well as a farewell for the original cosmic team. Naming Rocket as the new captain of the group, the roster left was that of Rocket, Groot, Kraglin, Cosmo, Adam Warlock, Phyla and Adam’s pet Blurp.

However, even as he returned to Earth and reunited with his grandfather, the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 end-credits promised that Star-Lord would return. Pratt has remained open to the possibility of returning for a new project, which Gunn has also given his blessing for, with most expecting him to appear in the next two-part Avengers event, Doomsday and Secret Wars.

Star-Lord’s New MCU Name Explained: What It Means For Chris Pratt’s Marvel Future

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 gives Star-Lord a new MCU name that connects to the comics. Here is what it means for Chris Pratt’s Marvel future.

But while Pratt hopes for a Star-Lord and Deadpool team-up in the MCU, the actual chances of such happening are currently unclear. The former was not included thus far on the list of confirmed characters to return in Avengers: Doomsday, while there are conflicting rumors whether Reynolds will reprise his Merc with a Mouth. Considering the number of Fox-originated X-Men actors there are in the next crossover event, it would make sense for Deadpool to appear, while the lack of Guardians characters makes Star-Lord’s chances less likely.

That being said, there are certainly other opportunities in the MCU for Pratt to fulfill his dreams of working with Reynolds for a Star-Lord and Deadpool event. It seems likely that, if not to appear in Doomsday, both will appear in Avengers: Secret Wars as it closes out The Multiverse Saga. Plus, with it reportedly being a soft reboot for the MCU as a whole, the 2027 film could send the pair off in a hilarious fashion before turning to new characters to focus on.
