Although David Tennant is no longer Doctor Who, a scrapped episode for his iteration of the character might make a comeback. According to writer Mark Gatiss, a story intended for the Tenth Doctor could potentially be revived.
Gatiss explained how the episode in question, The Suicide Exhibition, was, “On the verge of production for a while in the late 2000s. And, in a recent interview with Radio Times, the writer gave an optimistic update regarding the story. He stated that Big Finish, a company that produces audio dramas, was interested in adapting his script.
The writer did admit that he had not heard from Big Finish in a while. However, he says that he’s still hopeful that they will reach out again sometime soon.
[I wrote] two drafts – one set in the First World War, then Nazis… I just moved a war on. It’s called The Suicide Exhibition, set in the British Museum. It’s a sort of Indiana Jones-type story. It’s rather good, I think. I do [still have a copy]. Big Finish has expressed an interest. It’s all gone very quiet, though. I’m waiting for that emergency phone call!
Despite The Suicide Exhibition never making it to production, Gatiss has left a huge mark on the world of Doctor Who. He wrote several of what a lot of fans consider to be the best episodes of the science fiction franchise. These include An Adventure in Space and Time, a docudrama for the show’s 50th anniversary and The Unquiet Dead to Sleep No More.
Big Finish has created a wide range of Doctor Who content. Their audio dramas feature all the classic Doctors as well as several iterations of the more modern ones. Their stories take place in alternate realities. Audio adaptations of unmade scripts have been produced by the company in the past. Big Finish also develops spinoffs like Torchwood.
While BBC remains committed to filming another season of Doctor Who, there is currently no confirmed release date for a new installment at the time of this article’s publication. However, BBC did confirm that a Christmas special will premiere in 2026. And, the spinoff The War Between the Land and Sea will debut in the UK on December 7, 2025, and will be available in the US on Disney+ in 2026.
