A pair of bonafide romantic comedy heavyweights are back to breathe new life into the once dominating genre with Your Place or Mine on Netflix. Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher join forces for the rom-com that made its premiere just ahead of Valentine’s Day.
In the movie, longtime friends Debbie and Peter swap houses, and therefore lives, for one week. As single mother Debbie trades Los Angeles for New York City, bachelor businessman Peter watches Debbie’s young son. Soon, they discover what’s been missing from their lives.
But do the best friends end up together by the end of the romantic comedy? Do Debbie and Peter achieve their professional goals? Here’s an explanation of everything that happens by the end of the movie, just in case you need some clarification.

Do Debbie and Peter get together in Your Place or Mine?
Yes! Although it seemed like they weren’t going to make it work after Jack’s hockey accident, Debbie and Peter have a drag-out fight in the middle of the airport. Subverting the rom-com “airport scene,” wherein one character chases down the other, they meet at the airport as Debbie returns to Los Angeles and Peter leaves for New York.
After airing out their grievances, Debbie confronts Peter about keeping the poker chip from the night they met and seemingly harboring romantic feelings for her for 20 years. Finally, they surrender to what they have been running from and kiss! Debbie and Peter leave the airport together hand in hand, ready to embark on what’s next.
Does Debbie take the editor job in Your Place or Mine?
Theo (Jesse Williams) lands Debbie an editor job at a competing publishing house in New York, as to not mix business with their budding relationship. However, that was before Debbie and Peter get together. The job Theo had in line was with Macmillan, but in the six-month time jump, it’s revealed Debbie has taken an editor job at an indie publisher in Los Angeles.
Is Peter’s book published in Your Place or Mine?
When Debbie gives Theo a copy of Peter’s manuscript for his novel The Boy, the process of getting it published — without Peter’s knowledge — moves quickly. Peter has some feelings about Debbie turning in his manuscript without telling him about it, but when it’s all said and done, he’s excited to be a published author. Six months later, he is!
Do Debbie and Peter get married in Your Place or Mine?
Even though we don’t get to see their wedding on screen (or even a proposal!), the six-month time jump reveals that Debbie and Peter in fact got married. From a new job and a published book, they sure covered a lot of ground within six months. Also, Peter relocated back to Los Angeles to live with Debbie and Jack.
