DreamWorks Invites You to a World of Whimsey in New ‘Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie’ Image [Exclusive]

Next month, Gabby’s Dollhouse will be receiving a major glow-up on the big screen. The beloved mixed-media children’s series at Netflix is getting the feature film treatment with Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie, a brand-new project that will bring Gabby and her friends on a sparkling adventure to the real world to save her most prized possession, with some help from some comedy icons along the way. Following the success of the live-action How to Train Your Dragon remake, DreamWorks Animation is bringing the colorful universe of Blue’s Clues veterans Traci Paige Johnson and Jennifer Twomey to life on a scale that hasn’t been seen before, and we’re excited to include the film as part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview event for upcoming Fall movies. We can share a new image of the animated Gabby and her steadfast companions, the Gabby Cats, who are ready to welcome audiences into their whimsical world on September 25.

Directed by Children’s and Family Emmy nominee Ryan Crego, Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie sees Laila Lockhart Kraner reprise her role as the show’s host and resident kitty enthusiast, Gabby. Together with her Grandmother Gigi, played by pop icon Gloria Estefan, she sets off for the sprawling metropolis of Cat Francisco for a road trip of a lifetime. However, their journey gets derailed when Bridesmaids star Kristen Wiig enters the scene playing the eccentric cat lady Vera, who makes off with Gabby’s beloved dollhouse. It’s up to Gabby to venture throughout the real world to reunite the Gabby Cats and retrieve the house before it’s too late to stop Vera’s plans.

Wiig and Estefan are just the tip of the iceberg of new stars making their way into Gabby’s Dollhouse. The fantastical animated film will feature a trio of Saturday Night Live favorites in Ego Nwodim, Kyle Mooney, and Melissa Villaseñor, alongside an Emmy nominee in Reno 911!‘s Thomas Lennon. Also starring are Invincible‘s Jason Mantzoukas and FUBAR‘s Fortune Feimster. Of course, the original cast of the Gabby’s Dollhouse streaming series will be back in action in their roles as Pandy Paws, CatRat, Cakey, DJ Catnip, Baby Box, MerCat, and other friends of Gabby’s.

Gabby and two cats in Gabby's Dollhouse: The Movie

The big screen is an exciting new front for Gabby to explore after dominating the world of streaming. According to Nielsen, Gabby’s Dollhouse was the ninth-most-viewed streaming original series in 2024 and has become a known name for preschoolers around the world, expanding into toys, publishing, live experiences, and more. With activity-based episodes built with growth in mind and pushing flexible thinking and learning from mistakes, it’s been a go-to program for young viewers and their parents, releasing its eleventh season back in February. Longtime DreamWorks producer Steven Schweickart, who has been attached to blockbusters like The Croods and Kung Fu Panda 4, worked on Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie to ensure it’s a meaningful and faithful next step for the show.
