The Last of Us just wrapped up its second season in May. The HBO series’ sophomore survival run was based on the first half of the hit video game sequel, The Last of Us Part II. While not as universally beloved as its first outing, Season 2 was full of its own jaw-dropping and scary moments. Now, as fans wait for more news on Season 3, Joel Miller and Ellie Williams are getting a new statue from Dark Horse Direct.
Based on the first critically acclaimed video game, the latest premium statue is The Last of Us: Joel and Ellie on Horseback. The latter is seen on the horse during the fall chapter of the game with Joel by her side. The base are steps with fall leaves surrounding them. These appear to be from the University section of The Last of Us. This was a gameplay section that wasn’t touched on as much in Season 1 of the show. There’s also a lot of great detail work on this statue, including a “Firefly” logo on the ground and the cordyceps fungus surrounding them.
“If I Ever Were to Lose You, I’d Surely Lose Myself”
While The Last of Us Season 1 was a straightforward adaptation with the road trip across post-apocalyptic America anchoring it down, Season 2 was never going to be as simple in its design. That’s because The Last of Us Part II told its story like a weighty horror novel rather than a traditional genre movie like developer Naughty Dog was known for at the time.
The second game took the creative risk of having players take on the role of the “villain,” Abby, halfway through. Most fans didn’t like that because the character was responsible for Joel’s death, something that shocked fans in Episode 2 of this season. Pedro Pascal’s Joel and Bella Ramsey’s Ellie were the focus of the first two seasons. However, doubling down on its exploration of the cycle of violence, Season 3 will mainly focus on Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby dealing with the aftermath of her blood-soaked actions.
