Netflix’s original comedy series lineup has increased over the past couple years with fan-favorite and Emmy Award-nominated titles like Nobody Wants This, The Four Seasons, and the Chuck Lorre-produced sitcom Leanne. The charming series starring comedian Leanne Morgan has rapidly grown into a beloved title that fans can’t wait to see return for season 2.
Thankfully, after the sitcom’s successful premiere in July 2025, Netflix quickly announced the Leanne season 2 renewal. We have been patiently waiting for the laughs to return care of Leanne’s dysfunctional on-screen family. In the series, Leanne’s abruptly ends after over 30 years, leaving her to start completely over while expecting her first grandchild.
From navigating complex family situations to exploring what it’s like to date again after ending a three-decade relationship, Leanne hits all the right notes thanks to Morgan, Lorre, and the entire cast. As we get closer to the impending season 2 release later this year, there are so many exciting details we already know. Wondering what to expect and when to expect? Here’s what fans need to know!

Leanne season 2 wrapped filming in April 2026
After Leanne premiered on Netflix in July 2025 and the renewal was announced in September 2025, production didn’t begin on the new episodes right away. Leanne season 2 began production in Los Angeles in January 2026, starting the new year with a real bang. Since it’s a multi-cam comedy filmed in front of a live audience, production didn’t take long and has since wrapped up.
As announced this spring, Leanne season 2 finished filming in April 2026, as of at least April 11 per series star Kristen Johnston’s announcement on Instagram. It’s unclear how many episodes were ordered by Netflix this time around, as the streamer hasn’t confirmed the total just yet, but the four-month production process suggests the season had a similar order to season 1’s 16 episodes.

The new season will have an exciting guest star
Leanne season 2 will bring back the entire main cast from the first season 1, which of course includes Leanne Morgan in the titular role and Kristen Johnston as her sister Carol. The rest of the series regulars are Celia Weston as Mama Margaret, Blake Clark as Daddy John, Ryan Stiles as Leanne’s ex Bill, Graham Rogers as Leanne’s son Tyler, and Hannah Pilkes as Leanne’s daughter Josie.
While the full roster of returning recurring and guest stars hasn’t been revealed, we can expect Tim Daly to return as Andrew and Annie Gonzalez to be back as Tyler’s wife Nora (especially after giving birth to Leanne’s granddaughter). Jayma Mays had a recurring role in the first season as Leanne’s neighbor and kind-of friend Mary. She was hilarious and will hopefully be back!
Additionally, Jaime Pressly revealed that she will guest star in season 2, reuniting with her Mom costar Johnston in a currently undisclosed role that’s sure to be laugh-out-loud. There will likely be a number of new faces turning up in the second season that will take us by surprise. Between new friends, enemies, and love interests, there’s always fun to be had with sitcom casting.

Kristen Johnston teased a summer 2026 release date
Even though Leanne season 2 just wrapped filming in April 2026, the episodes are still planned to be released before 2026 ends. Netflix teased the show’s return this year and Johnston seemed to further confirm its incoming return this summer. The star didn’t elaborate on a release month this summer, but season 2 could again drop again at the end of July or sometime in August.
Don’t forget, most of September is technically summer, too. But we know for sure that Leanne season 2 drops this summer, and there’s not much more waiting to go. Because it’s a multi-cam sitcom that’s easy to produce compared to Netflix’s single-camera comedies, and especially its original dramas, the post-production process is much, much quicker for release turnaround.
However, since Netflix hasn’t confirmed the episode count, the release cadence also hasn’t been confirmed. If the order is again for 16 episodes, we can hope that Netflix will again drop the full season all at once rather than splitting in half with two parts. But if the season’s shorter than 16 episodes, a split probably isn’t in the cards anyway. Let’s hope for a 16-episode binge drop!
