Exploring the Power of Force Nexuses Across the Galaxy

The Force binds all living things in the Star Wars galaxy. However, only a handful of locations, objects, and individuals across the galaxy become so concentrated with this mystical energy field that they qualify as powerful Force nexuses, also known as vergences.

In Star Wars, vergences serve as distortions, wellsprings, and/or manifestations of the Force at its most intense. Keeping that in mind, here’s every major Force nexus in the Star Wars canon (including Ahsoka’s legendary World Between Worlds).

The Brendok Vergence (Acolyte)

The Acolyte confirmed a rare vergence in the Force existed on this world used by the Witches of Brendok, enabling the artificial conception of twins Mae and Osha Aniseya, both of whom possessed incredibly strong Force sensitivity.

The Jedi detected this anomaly (and intervened with disastrous results). However, the Brendok vergence is one of the only canon examples foreshadowing the emergence of Anakin Skywalker.

Coruscant Jedi Temple Nexus (Prequels)

Canonically, Coruscant’s Jedi Temple sits atop an ancient Sith shrine, a dark-side nexus the Jedi Order attempted but never fully erased. This hidden foundation subtly clouded the Jedi’s perceptions during the prequels (aiding in Palpatine’s concealment), a key convergence of the light and dark sides of the Force.

Anakin Skywalker (The Phantom Menace)

In The Phantom Menace, Qui-Gon Jinn identifies Anakin to the Jedi Council as a literal “vergence in the Force”, the only individual in the Star Wars canon described as such on screen.

Anakin’s unprecedented birth through the Force (having no father) makes Skywalker a living nexus whose existence reshaped the entire galaxy as the prophesied Chosen One. Without a doubt, Anakin certainly proved himself as a focal point where destiny, prophecy, and cosmic energy converged.

Illum (Clone Wars Micro-Series)

Long before it was transformed into Starkiller Base, Ilum functioned as a pure concentration of light-side energy. Its kyber crystals were in harmony with the Force, a key world where the Jedi sent their younglings to select their kyber crystals and build their first lightsabers.

Temple of Eedit (Clone Wars)

Briefly featured during Savage Oppress’ attack, the Temple of Eedit is located on the world of Devaron. While not much is known about the temple that was minimally staffed by the time of the Clone Wars, it was confirmed to be the site of a vergence (like most Jedi Temples and outposts).

Mortis (Clone Wars)

Mortis is easily the Force at its most mythic and powerful, a seemingly otherworldly realm where the cosmic balance is manifested by key Anchorites: The Son representing the dark side, The Daughter for the light, and The Father keeping them both in balance.

Anakin Skywalker was given the opportunity to succeed the Father during the Clone Wars (which he turned down), while 2023’s Ahsoka teased the return of the Mortis gods in Ahsoka season 2, meaning there’s clearly more Lucasfilm wants to share about this powerful nexus.

Wellspring of Life (Clone Wars)

Yoda and the Wellspring of Life

The Wellspring is home to the Force Priestesses and the apparent inception of the Jedi path to immortality, as it was where Qui-Gon first learned the unique training required to become a Force ghost.

Guided by Jinn’s spirit, Yoda made his own journey to the Wellspring during the Clone Wars, believed to be the primordial root of the Living Force itself, perhaps even the source of all other vergences in the Star Wars galaxy.

Moraband (Clone Wars)

Moraband, also known as Korriban in Legends, is the ancient homeworld of the Sith and similarly saturated with millennia of dark-side rituals, tombs, and corrupted energy.

Yoda’s journey here in The Clone Wars season 6 confirms that the planet functions as a powerful nexus, where the dark side manifests through illusions and trials, as seen when Yoda was faced with the haunted wraith of Darth Bane himself.

Every valley and crypt is likely full of dark power, making Moraband one of the most potent Sith nexuses in the Star Wars canon.

Mustafar (Revenge of the Sith)

Saturated in dark-side energies, Mustafar’s violently volcanic terrain echoes its corrupt nature, twisting the Force into a place of anger, suffering, and transformation as the site of Darth Vader’s imposing castle, intentionally located on top of a dark side locus to amplify his own power.

Lothal Jedi Temple (Rebels)

The Lothal Jedi Temple has been shown to transform according to the will of the Force and the sensitivity of those who interact with it.

The temple’s deepest chamber also houses a gateway to the World Between Worlds, redefining the temple as one of the galaxy’s most important nexuses. As such, it’s no wonder Emperor Palpatine excavated the entire temple in a bid to gain access (though he never succeeded).
