Melanie Scrofano was a great lead actor for Wynonna Earp, and now she’s starring in a new supernatural mystery show that’s the perfect replacement. The supernatural Western series stars Scrofano as the titular Wynonna Earp, a descendant of Wyatt Earp who fights reincarnated outlaws, called revenants, using her family’s special powers. She fights various foes while wielding Peacemaker, a gun passed down through generations of her family line. The cast of Wynonna Earp includes plenty of memorable characters, such as the title character’s sister, Waverly, and an immortal version of Doc Holliday.
The show ended with season 4, with Wynonna Earp season 5 not happening after the series’ cancellation. However, the show did return in September 2024 with the Tubi special Wynonna Earp: Vengeance, which saw major cast members, like Scrofano, reprise their roles from the series. For now, it’s unclear if the series will be coming back, or if its latest TV special will be the last for the show. Despite the series having ended, though, its lead actor hasn’t shied away from taking on roles in supernatural stories, with one being a perfect follow-up to the Western.
Revival Is The Perfect Replacement For Wynonna Earp
The Series Deals With Similar Supernatural Elements
Scrofano is currently starring in a new supernatural TV show from Syfy, titled Revival. Based on the comic series of the same name by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton, the show depicts a town in rural Wisconsin in the aftermath of “Revival Day,” a point in time where everyone who died over the course of a two-week period came back to life. Scrofano leads the cast of Revival as Dana Cypress, a police officer with dreams of leaving who becomes trapped in the town following the unexplainable mass resurrection.

New Mystery Horror Show Is A Great Replacement For ABC’s 11-Year-Old Brad Pitt-Produced Sci-Fi Series Canceled After 2 Seasons
Syfy’s new horror, Revival, has already earned very promising reviews, but it also has a striking similarity to one forgotten drama series from 2014.
Much like Wynonna Earp, the show deals with the aftermath of revived people in a small town. While the revenants in the Western series are clear dangers that its protagonist needs to deal with, the people who came back to life in Revival have more nuanced stories. Dana ends up getting wrapped into an investigation that could signal there’s more going on with revived people than meets the eye. With just two episodes released as of writing, though, there’s still plenty for the series to unpack before revealing what direction this means for its mystery.
Much like Wynonna Earp, it seems like Revival has some compelling supernatural tricks up its sleeve…
Reviews for Revival have also been quite positive, with the show scoring a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes with critics and a 92% with audiences. While some critics have said the drama has a slower start, glowing reviews praise the show for where it ends up taking its storyline. Much like Wynonna Earp, it seems like Revival has some compelling supernatural tricks up its sleeve that it will slowly reveal week-to-week as new episodes arrive. With some dangerous developments already in play, now is the perfect time to tune in to see where the story goes.
Wynonna Earp & Revival Have Plenty Of Fresh Differences
The Newer Series Has A Different Approach To Resurrection
Unlike the outlaw vibes of Wynonna Earp, Revival offers a small-town mystery akin to Twin Peaks or From in its presentation. The biggest difference between both shows is how it handles its resurrected characters. While the latter Western has revenants that are mostly threats to the core characters, Revival‘s resurrected are still normal people, albeit with some supernatural gifts. Although the main storyline revolves around this expectation being broken, for the most part, everyone who came back to life isn’t a threat for Dana to contend with.
Because of this core difference, Revival is familiar enough to Wynonna Earp to echo its story while having plenty of differences to keep its events fresh. Since the series has only just begun, the mystery that’s unfolding and how its supernatural elements evolve are only going to grow with each new episode. Given Scrofano’s dedicated performance in her new role, it’s a perfect evolution from her previous series, with plenty of unique ideas to make it stand out in comparison.
New episodes of Revival air Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on Syfy.
