There may be no greater example of how out of touch Vince McMahon was than how Karrion Kross was handled upon getting called up to WWE.
Triple H has been hard at work trying to right WWE‘s creative ship, and if a recent report is to be believed, he’s got his sights set on bringing Karrion Kross back into the fold. Known as Killer Kross on the independent scene, the former NXT champion has stayed plenty busy since being released by the company back in November of 2021. That news was shocking at the time, given how much he’d dominated the gold and black version of the developmental brand.
Once Vince McMahon got his hands on Kross, however, he almost immediately had his legs cut out from under him. His presentation was changed entirely. The imposing figure who had Scarlett Bordeaux act as his harbinger was gone. Instead, McMahon stuck him with a genuinely awful gladiator gimmick. It fell short right out of the box, to the point where it would have taken a herculean effort to turn the perception of Kross around for WWE’s audience.
Triple H knows how to handle and book Kross, though, as he showed while working with him in NXT. As such, a recent Fightful Select report stating that WWE is interested in re-signing the 37-year-old shouldn’t be too surprising. “Killer Kross could be headed back to WWE, if what Fightful has heard ends up being true. Fightful Select has learned that the former NXT Champion had been discussed as a name of interest for WWE to bring back to the company. Several within the industry outright expected him to return, and one source indicated they believed it was already in the company’s plans, though we’ve yet to confirm that whatsoever. We were able to confirm that his name had at least been discussed on WWE’s end.” Fightful is also reporting that it’s unclear what this could mean for his wife, Bordeaux.
Kross is a name that has been connected to just about every wrestling promotion since last year. AEW has reportedly wanted to involve Kross in the MJF vs. Wardlow feud but wasn’t interested in using Scarlett as part of his presentation, so he passed. He was also supposedly going to be involved with ROH prior to Tony Khan purchasing the company.
If Triple H does get Kross under contract, he’ll have the opportunity to do one of McMahon’s greatest recent booking sins. The 6-foot-4, 264-pounder looks every bit the part of a world champion and could pose a legit threat to the likes of Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns. More importantly, he’d pose a fresh threat to the top of the card, which has been in need of a shakeup for the better part of the last few years. This is another good sign that WWE is in stellar hands with Triple H at the creative helm.
