WARNING! Potential spoilers ahead for Cobra Commander #2
Summary
- The Dreadnoks make their Energon Universe debut in Cobra Commander #2, bringing a “shock-and-awe” approach to the new continuity.
- Cobra Commander may encounter the Dreadnoks as potential allies or enemies in his quest for Energon.
- G.I. Joe franchise fans are excited to see their favorite characters’ origins unfold in the new continuity.
Cobra Commander recently made his Energon Universe debut, but Skybound Entertainment isn’t done introducing classic G.I. Joe characters yet. A preview for February’s Cobra Commander #2 brings the Dreadnoks into the new continuity, as the Commander finds potential allies (or enemies…) in his quest to find more Energon.
Coming from the creative team of Joshua Williamson, Andrea Milana, Annalisa Leoni, and Rus Wooten, the preview for Cobra Commander #2, released via Skybound.com, opens in the swamps of Louisiana, as two prisoners are being interrogated rather harshly.
The two prisoners wind up getting dispatched rather harshly by a pair of bikers with chainsaws: the Dreadnoks known as Ripper and Buzzer. The end of Cobra Commander #1 promised the first appearance of the mercenary biker gang, and here the Dreadnoks are unleashed with some rather bloody violence that wouldn’t have flown in the original cartoon.

“The True Secret of This War Is More Than Meets the Eye”: Energon Universe Trailer Promises Big Events in 2024
Skybound has released an all-new trailer for the Energon Universe, as the worlds of Transformers, G.I. Joe and Void Rivals continue to grow.
Friend or Foe: The Dreadnoks Make Their Energon Universe Debut
First appearing in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #25, the Dreadnoks were originally a group of militarized bikers led by master of disguise Zartan. Known for their “shock-and-awe” approach, the Dreadnoks were effective mercenaries who Cobra Commander could call upon whenever he needed to instill fear on the open road. Fans already knew Buzzer would appear when the main cover for issue #2 was released, but getting to see him and Ripper in action shows this Energon version of the Dreadnoks are taking no prisoners.
With Zartan hinted at in Duke #1 and Zarana appearing on the cover of Cobra Commander #3, the G.I. Joe corner of the Energon Universe is filling out rather nicely. Fans of this new interconnected universe must now wonder about what will happen when Cobra Commander encounters the Dreadnoks. It’s possible that he’ll try to recruit them to his cause right away, but they may put up a fight. The preview shows there are no limits to the Dreadnoks’ brutality, but considering that Cobra Commander has his own deadly weapons developed from Transformers tech, it will be quite the showdown.
Will Cobra Commander Enlist the Dreadnoks to His Cause?
Between Duke and Cobra Commander, the G.I. Joe franchise is in good hands at Skybound. Fans are excited to see the origins of their favorite characters in the new continuity, and the sky’s the limit when it comes to who might be debuting next. As the forces of G.I. Joe and Cobra begin to gather in the wake of the Transformers arriving on Earth, the Energon Universe is heating up for an eventful 2024. As Cobra Commander continues to search the Earth for Energon, G.I. Joe will have its hands full whenever it makes its debut to fight for freedom over land and air.
Cobra Commander #2 is available February 21st from Skybound Entertainment.
