Gary Oldman's Slow Horses Season 5 Tops Streaming Charts

Gary Oldman’s spy thriller TV show, Slow Horses, has become an instant hit on streaming, just one day after season 5 began. Slow Horses season 5 is based on London Rules, the fifth book in the Slough House series by Mick Herron. Much like previous seasons, the show sees Oldman’s Jackson Lamb and his MI5 unit tackling a twisted case.

Now, FlixPatrol has confirmed Slow Horses is Number 1 on Apple TV+ worldwide as of September 25, 2025. The series is sitting above The Morning Show, which returned with season 4 last week, proving just how quickly the Oldman-led spy thriller has managed to regain popularity. It also sits at Number 1 in 39 individual countries, including the UK.

Slow Horses has managed to bypass all other popular Apple TV+ shows currently airing on the platform within just one day of season 5’s release. This includes Invasion season 3, which has found renewed success with its latest batch of episodes, and Chief of War, a Jason Momoa-led historical drama that recently finished airing.

Beyond the pull Oldman has, the characters in Slow Horses are core parts of what makes the series so popular. The way the MI5 team weaves together coupled with the cases they tackle are bolstering elements of the show’s quality. It’s part of why every season has been critically acclaimed; season 5 holds a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes as of writing.

The show’s success is also a good sign for its longevity, something Apple TV+ has already confirmed. Slow Horses season 6 and season 7 have already been confirmed, pulling from the next three books in Herron’s series. This global success emphasizes how much life the show has left in it, and how big a pull it has for the streamer.

The instant success of Slow Horses season 5 isn’t surprising, considering how much of the spy show’s future Apple TV+ has already mapped out. With the series continuing to enjoy critical praise, audiences being so invested isn’t all that surprising. Since the show’s only just premiered, there’s still almost three full seasons left to come out and enjoy similar success.

Since this is just the start of Slow Horses‘ weekly performance on Apple TV+, the show has plenty of time to continue maintaining its grip on the streamer’s charts. Its popularity means the streaming service may continue producing as many seasons as it takes to catch up to Herron’s books, making the series a mainstay of the platform.

New episodes of Slow Horses season 5 arrive Wednesdays on Apple TV+.
