On the Brink of War?
Mere days after Collider delivered an exclusive update on Primal Season 3, the show has just taken another colossal step forward. Primal, which has earned a perfect 100% rating from critics for both seasons on Rotten Tomatoes, is the latest creation from animation savant Genndy Tartakovsky. The series follows a caveman and a dinosaur who bond over a shared tragedy and team up to survive in their dangerous world. Primal has also earned scores of 97% and 90% from audiences on Season 1 and 2 on Rotten Tomatoes, respectively. Collider’s Steve Weintraub was in attendance at Adult Swim’s panel at Annecy, where it was confirmed that Primal Season 3 will premiere in 2026. It was revealed in October 2024 that two episodes of Season 3 were completed.
It’s been nearly three years since the Season 2 finale of Primal, which was renewed for a third season roughly one year later. Fans have been extremely patient as they wait for new episodes, but now we know when to expect the third season of Primal. Given that the cast and crew have been hard at work for years now, with some episodes even being ready to air last year, Primal Season 3 can be stuck with an early 2026 release window, rather than a later one. The first season of Primal premiered in October 2019 before its follow-up arrived in July 2019, so there isn’t a clear pattern for a potential window to follow. Tartakovsy has directed every episode of the series thus far with Darrick Bachman, Bryan Andrews, David Krentz, Don Shank, Nagisa Koyama, and Mark Andrews filling out the rest of the writer’s room.
Primal Season 3 Is Going To Be “A New Level”
Collider’s Steve Weintraub recently caught up with Tartakovsky, and the duo chatted about the future of Primal. The creator teased that Season 3 is going to be “a new level” and “even more” than anything they’ve done in previous seasons. Tartakovsky also said he’s “rarely been this proud” of a project like this, which is not only a testament to his strong writing and directing but also to the show’s dedicated animation team. The Primal writer has a new movie, Fixed, that’s coming to theaters on August 13. It stars Kathryn Hahn, Idris Elba, and more.
