Sometimes a movie hits just right. We’re talking about the kind that makes you feel like you’re right there in the middle of the action. There’s a 2021 crime thriller on Netflix that’s doing exactly that, and viewers can’t seem to get enough. It’s titled Copshop, and it’s the No. 1 movie streaming on Netflix at the moment. It was added to the streaming platform on Feb. 1, 2026.
If action-packed flicks are your thing, you’re likely already familiar with Gerard Butler. He’s been in his fair share of high-octane thrillers like Olympus Has Fallen and Den of Thieves. In Copshop, he delivers another outstanding performance. Honestly, it’s arguably one of his best movies he’s done in recent years. Now, let’s get into what this film is about. Then, you’ll understand why so many people are streaming it on Netflix!
For starters, Joe Carnahan is behind it. He directed and co-wrote the film with Kurt McLeod. Carnahan is the same creative genius who helmed tense, adrenaline-fueled thrillers like The Grey and Smokin’ Aces. Most recently, he directed and wrote the script for the 2026 Netflix action thriller flick The Rip. Yes, this is the same movie starring Oscar winners Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. You should check that one out as well after finishing Copshop. But back to the topic at hand!
Copshop takes place almost entirely in a small-town Nevada police station, a setting that could have been mundane but is transformed into a tense, claustrophobic battlefield in a way. The film begins with Teddy Murretto (Frank Grillo), a slick and clever con artist who’s on the run from a methodical, terrifying hitman named Bob Viddick, played by Butler.
After punching a rookie police officer in the face, Murretto is quickly taken into custody, thinking he’s found a temporary safe haven. But things quickly spiral out of control. Viddick purposely gets himself arrested, ensuring he’ll be placed in the same station as Murretto. He’s determined to successfully complete his mission, but things get complicated when a second, equally dangerous assassin shows up at the station. Meanwhile, the rookie cop finds herself caught in the middle.
Joining Butler and Grillo in the cast for Copshop are Alexis Louder, Toby Huss, Chad Coleman, Ryan O’Nan, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Kaiwi Lyman-Mersereau, Christopher Michael Holley, Keith Jardine, and others.

Chances are, Copshop will leave you wanting to watch another movie right after. Luckily, Netflix carries several other movies starring Butler on its platform. For example, you have the option to watch Angel Has Fallen, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, and The Ugly Truth.
If animated films are your thing, Netflix also has How to Train Your Dragon and How to Train Your Dragon 2 to stream on its platform. Butler voices the role of Stoick the Vast in these movies. In addition, the live-action How to Train Your Dragon film is scheduled to arrive on Netflix on Feb. 10. Butler reprises the role of Stoick in this movie as well.
Copshop is now streaming on Netflix.
