Gerard Butler will always prove popular on streaming, with his recent action flick Den of Thieves 2: Pantera topping the charts in 2025. The Hollywood action hero is so popular that, even when his face isn’t in a project, it is still flying high on streaming sites. That is the fate recently met by How to Train Your Dragon 2, Dean DeBlois‘ 2014 sequel to the hit 2010 animated flick.
Per FlixPatrol, as of July 28, 2025, How to Train Your Dragon 2 is the tenth most-watched movie on Amazon Prime, joining a long list of other high-profile titles proving popular. Elsewhere on the list, at #9, is the Rebel Wilson-led The Hustle, with Glen Powell’s legacy sequel Twisters at #8, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, starring Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Jack Black, at #7. Hidden Figures is at #6, with Jim Carrey and Keanu Reeves’ Sonic the Hedgehog 3 kicking off the top 5, and Ben Affleck’s hit action sequel The Accountant 2 at #4. The Ruben Fleischer-directed Uncharted is at #3, with the recent Heads of State at #2, knocked from its perch by the 2024 mega-hit, Wicked.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 earned rave reviews upon arrival, boasting a huge, Certified Fresh 92% from critics on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, with a further 90% from audiences, cementing its positive reception. At the 2014 box office, the movie was a huge success, outperforming the first installment and earning a huge $614 million worldwide. Split between a domestic haul of $177 million and a further $437 million from overseas markets, the sequel returned 4.2 times its reported $145 million production budget on its way to becoming the twelfth highest-grossing movie of the year.
The ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Remake Is a Huge Box Office Hit
Universal’s How to Train Your Dragon remake, once again directed by DeBlois and featuring Butler, has soared to enormous success at the current box office. Despite competition from James Gunn‘s Superman, the Gareth Edwards-helmed Jurassic World Rebirth, Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch, and more, How to Train Your Dragon has become one of the highest-grossing movies of the year, and now sits just $8 million away from becoming the highest-grossing entry in the series, overtaking How to Train Your Dragon 2 on its way.
