Ghosts Season 5 Star Addresses Pete's Romantic Future Post Season 4 Twist

Pete’s romantic future in Ghosts season 5 has been addressed by series star Richie Moriarty after season 4’s twist for the character. Ghosts season 5 is promising plenty of new and hilarious adventures at the Woodstone B&B, especially for its many established cast members. This includes Pete, whose romance with someone outside the Manor opens the door for interesting storytelling.

In an interview with Rachel Foertsch at ScreenRant’s San Diego Comic-Con 2025 media suite, Moriarty addressed how Ghosts season 5 could continue to explore Pete’s ability to leave the property given his story involving love beyond the B&B. The actor also expressed hope for Pete to have someone he can be with, hopeful for a bigger love story:

ScreenRant: Now we saw Pete, he’s able to find himself after he left the B&B and found a girl. Can you talk about how Pete has grown away from the ghosts, and how we continue to see that next season?

Richie Moriarty: Well, yeah. I think he’s in a unique situation as a ghost in this house because he’s able now to go to other places, to leave the property. He meets someone who he essentially has a fling with, but kind of falls in love with, has a really strong connection with this woman. So, I think it’s going to lead to him continuing to seek other relationships outside of the house. Now, the power is limited. He starts to disappear when he’s gone too long, so I think the showrunners very smartly put a cap on it so that he doesn’t disappear forever. But it’ll be really interesting to have him have transformative experiences outside the house and then come back and try to share them with the other ghosts.

ScreenRant: What would you like to see explored with Pete beyond the B&B?

Richie Moriarty: Well, the end of last season was great where we got to see a little bit more of his relationship status outside of the house. Obviously, his ex-wife dies on the property, which is insane. You have, all of a sudden, his wife is living on the property that doesn’t go great. And then he discovers this power that totally changes the game, and he immediately very quickly find somebody who he has a connection with. I would love to see him fall in love with somebody who he could actually spend time with and be with. Whether that’s inside the house now, or someone outside who’s able to come in in some way, who knows. But I think seeing Pete find real love in his afterlife would be really fun to play.

What Richie Moriarty’s Statement Means For Pete In Ghosts Season 5

Pete’s story in Ghosts season 4 ended with him breaking up with Donna and deciding to be with Alberta, ending the romance he had with a spirit who wasn’t on the core property. This twist comes with the fact that he’s still living on the property with Carol, his ex-wife when the pair were alive, adding drama to his future.

However, as Moriarty states, he wants to see more of Pete’s ability to leave Woodstone, possibly even resulting in romantic options that exist beyond the ones he’s had over the course of the show thus far. This could mean a similar relationship to the one he had with Donna, or perhaps even a rekindling of interest with her.

But, given the number of paths his character could go, and his current choice to be with Alberta, it’s unclear how much his power of leaving Woodstone will impact season 5. Other characters in Ghosts could end up on adventures with him depending on what transpires. For now, his exact storyline and who it’ll involve remain up in the air.

Pete’s relationship with Donna shows how his adventures beyond Woodstone could easily lead to more important connections with other characters. Whether he finds his true love beyond their walls or has found it in Alberta remains to be seen. However, Moriarty is clearly excited to see his character outside once again, potentially for even deeper connections with others.

Since Ghosts season 5 will doubtlessly feature storylines that keep pushing the limits of what’s possible in the series, Pete will play a central role in some of what’s to come. Since his power has so much potential left, whether romantic or otherwise, he’ll likely be a strong central focus as the show continues adding to its lore and characters.

Ghosts season 5 begins Thursday, October 16 on CBS.
