God Of War Leak Has Fans Torn On Future Settings

Hot off the shadow-drop launch of God of War Sons of Sparta and the announcement of the God of War Trilogy Remake, a Faye game in the God of War franchise has supposedly leaked. And, despite whether someone likes the idea of playing as God of War’s Faye or not, there are far larger implications that a game like this could have on the series as a whole.

For instance, fans have been tugging back and forth about how long the franchise would be allowed to marinate in God of War’s Norse mythology saga. If rumors and leaks of a Faye game turn out to be true, then it seems likely that we are not going to be seeing the end of this mythology’s influence for quite a while.

Gamers Crave A New God Of War Era

Reddit user antisp1n asks, “Is this in addition to that Egypt rumor? Or is Egypt not happening?”, posing an interesting question in light of the Faye rumor. Reddit user Memelord1337_ wishes that a new God of War game would take place in a “completely unrelated setting,” a sentiment shared by many. Egypt, having been rumored for so long, can realistically dampen any excitement for a game that would hypothetically be set within the same mythology as the last two games.

The consensus seems to be that fans would’ve preferred a Freya game than a Faye game, if the series was indeed choosing to stay in the Norse mythology. Because we already know how Faye’s story ends, it might have been more interesting to explore Freya, a character who is far more fleshed out and familiar to players between God of War and God of War Ragnarök, either in a prequel chapter or an epilogue to God of War Ragnarök in the nine realms.

Out With The New, In With The Old

It was previously stated that God of War Ragnarök would be the last Norse saga game, without a third game to create a Norse mythology trilogy for Kratos. It now seems as if this is only applied to Kratos and Atreus’ stories in the Norse mythology, if Faye is getting her own game, and a future God of War game starring Kratos may depict the demigod/god as having made Midgard his permanent home.

Either way, the Norse saga has made no small effort to tease future realm- and mythology-hopping in God of War, and it was expected that the series would fulfill that sooner rather than later. This does not mean that a Faye game would be inherently uninteresting or unengaging, especially if we get to see Faye and Kratos’ romance blossom further. It does, however suggest that God of War is shackled to Norse mythology, which could ultimately be stifling.
