The CW has finally decided the fate of one of its most underrated police procedurals that’s also loaded with romance. News broke this afternoon that The CW has renewed Wild Cards, meaning it will indeed receive another season. The Canadian broadcast group CBC previously announced both a Season 3 and a Season 4 renewal, but reports claim that The CW was not on board with this at the time, and had to wait until now to make its own decision regarding the show’s future in America. The Season 2 finale aired earlier this year in May, and Season 3 is expected to premiere in 2026.
Wild Cards is a crime procedural that follows Ellis (Giacomo Gianniotti) and Max (Vanessa Morgan). Ellis is a demoted detective who has spent the last year of his life in the maritime unit, and Max has spent her time scamming everyone she knows. Things come to a head when Max gets arrested and leans on Ellis for help, and the duo is offered redemption in the form of working together and using their unique skill set to solve crimes. Wild Cards has been hailed as a spiritual successor to Castle (Nathan Fillion), although there is no official connection between the two shows.
Wild Cards Season 3 will reportedly pick up just one month after the Season 2 finale, with Max now working as an official police consultant. Her world is turned upside down immediately when Ellis returns to the force, cleared of all wrongdoing and eager to team up with her again. Things get even more complicated for Max when her long-lost mother, Vivienne (Tamara Taylor), returns to reconnect with her daughter. Max had believed her mother was dead for years.
Who Else Stars in ‘Wild Cards’?
In addition to Vanessa Morgan as Max and Giacomo Gianniottis Ellis, Wild Cards also stars Michael Xavier as Detective Simmons, Amy Goodmurphy as Detective Yates, Terry Chen as Chief Li, Fletcher Donovan as Ricky Wilson, Jason Priestley as George Graham, Giacomo Baessato as Officer Jim, Caroline Battista as Officer Toni, and more. The show was written and created for television by Michael Konyves, who has also worked on Bad Blood and Last Knights in the past. Konyves also produces alongside James Genn, James Thorpe, Charles Cooper, Shawn Mendel, and A.J. Mendez.
