There are just a few months to go until the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, and with it having been well over a decade since the last entry, fans have been speculating as to the potential cost of what can be considered the most anticipated video game of all time. With rumors that Rockstar Games could ask for up to $100 for a single copy, a recent comment by Take-Two Interactive’s CEO may just put our minds at rest. Albeit very slightly.
In an interview with The Game Business, Strauss Zelnick spoke about the video game industry as a whole, and in between talking about in-game advertising, the rise of AI, and asset creation, the CEO also shed some light on the potential price point for Grand Theft Auto VI.
GTA 6’s Price May Have Just Been Confirmed Finally
As the parent company of Rockstar Games, it is safe to assume that Take-Two Interactive is in the know when it comes to the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, including that dreaded cost. The interview kicked off with Zelnick being asked if the company had any worries about the long wait between Grand Theft Auto installments, or more specifically, how they would cope with the majority of the original fanbase being a lot older than they were when Grand Theft Auto 5 was launched. As such, they now have adult responsibilities and may not have time to sink time into GTA VI. However, Zelnick does not view this as a concern, explaining that there will be a new generation of teenagers who will want to play, and as for the older fans, they will now be able to purchase Grand Theft Auto VI without parental consent. Additionally, the CEO believes that Grand Theft Auto VI can be played as a standalone, so the younger generation will not feel the need to play previous installments.
However, it was the potential price drop that intrigued fans the most. When asked if Rockstar might utilize in-game advertising in order to justify the price of the game itself, Zelnick soon shut this down, and instead gave us a hint into Grand Theft Auto VI‘s potential cost.
“Very difficult for me to believe that we would want to have interstitial advertising in a game that someone paid 70 or 80 bucks for would seem unfair.”
It Looks Like GTA 6 Will Be A Standard Price After All
So if Zelnick is indeed referring to the cost of Grand Theft Auto VI, it would seem as though the upcoming Rockstar release will indeed be the standard price of your average AAA game in recent years. Coming in at around $60–80, this is a lot more reassuring than the previously rumored $100 price tag, but there is no denying that it is still a big investment for many fans. However, with Grand Theft Auto VI widely regarded to be the biggest game launch of all time, Rockstar can be rest assured that fans will do what it takes to get their hands on a copy.
Luckily, we do not have long left to wait as Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch on 19 November 2026.
