At the time of writing, GTA 6 is scheduled to release on November 19, 2026. I say “at the time of writing”, because it’s already changed once and could well be delayed again. Although I hope not.
Whether GTA 6 is delayed a third time or not, one unfortunate fact is that the game will be unplayable for millions of gamers on launch day.
GTA 6’s Release Date Isn’t A Celebration For Everyone
Some will be left in the cold
When Rockstar Games released the first trailer for GTA 6, fans were quick to realize there was no mention of a PC launch. It was swiftly confirmed that GTA 6 would not be launching on PC alongside PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, something that hasn’t gone down well with the fans.
Some fans are so used to Rockstar Games failing to priorize PC gamers that they’re braced to wait until 2028 to play GTA 6, which is absolutely heartbreaking, given there are millions of gamers out there who primarily – or indeed only – use PC.
As user Dragarius writes on Reddit: “Well, since it’ll be so late in the console life cycle, I imagine they’ll want to get out an enhanced port for PS6 first. Xbox I don’t know about since they’ll essentially already be a PC… So maybe 2028.”
“The wait is gonna be painful,” writes another fan. ”I almost bought a console just to play Red Dead Redemption 2 when it was released.”
“Boycott Rockstar,” another fan suggests. “f*** their game. This ain’t 2015, it’s 2025. Why are we playing games without including PC?”
GTA 6 Will Be Unavailable To Millions At Launch
Unless they go and get a new-gen console, that is
For comparison, GTA 5 released on PC on April 14, 2015, well over a year after the game originally released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Red Dead Redemption 2 came to PC in 2019, one year after its console launch. A lengthy wait for a PC port from Rockstar is not uncommon, then.
With tempers already running this high among PC gamers, it’s clear that GTA 6‘s big launch is not going to be the universal day of peace and love among gamers everywhere that you might have been hoping for. We also have to factor in the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One gamers who, for whatever reason, have been unable to upgrade to the latest consoles yet.
Given the sheer popularity of Grand Theft Auto as a franchise and the fact GTA 6 is probably going to have the biggest video game launch of all time, I’d be willing to bet a lot of PC-only gamers are going to forgo the waiting period and just pick up a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X before November.
