Henry Cavill‘s Highlander has been the talk of the town. The film has been put on pause after Cavill suffered an injury on the set and while we don’t know much about what director Chad Stahelski has in store, we do know that the cast is going to be an exciting addition to the Highlander universe. Cavill is joined by Karen Gillan, Jeremy Irons, and Russell Crowe in the reboot film but his collaboration with Crowe is something special. Not just for fans but for Cavill himself. Crowe posted an image to his social media account that featured an image of him from Ridley Scott‘s Gladiator with a personalized message to Cavill on it.
“Artefact. Signed to Henry Cavill at Stowe school, UK around February 2000. Gladiator was released in May that year,” Crowe wrote on X with a picture of the image in question. The personalized message included inspiration for Cavill’s career. “To Henry, A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Best wishes, Russell” the image reads. The quote is attributed to philosopher and writer Lao Tzu. But it is sweet that the image back when Cavill was in school has now led to the two working together in the Highlander universe.
The note is a nice touch to Cavill and Crowe’s now working relationship in Highlander not only because the two are collaborating but because he continues a long trend of actors sharing stories of other performers inspiring them one way or another. Getting to see how Crowe’s work and message inspired Cavill in his own career is a nice touch to the production of the film, especially with Crowe’s note about the film’s connection to Gladiator as he’s playing Ramirez (a role originally played by Sean Connery) was a Spaniard.
Highlander Stars Are Praising the Henry Cavill Reboot Already
The reboot of Highlander has been a topic of conversation for fans. For many, the thing people know about the franchise is that there can “only be one” and that’s about it. So Cavill and Stahelski’s film will be a major turning point for the franchise. And it helps that stars like Dave Bautista have been teasing the work being done on the film. Bautista told Collider that the film is truly something special. “These films are just so different. Highlander [is] so stylized. Highlander is a game changer. It’s like a real game changer.”
