Megabonk is easily one of the best solo-developed indie games of 2025, and over the past months since launch, developer vedinad has been hard at work on a free “Spooky Halloween” update. While Halloween came and went and no update was released, vedinad finally decided to release it just in time for Christmas.
Aside from an array of new free content including a new weapon, new items, and a new Graveyard map, players also have brand-new bosses to take on. Inside the Graveyard crypts, you’ll run into the most powerful boss to appear in Megabonk so far, Spooky Steveāand you have to beat him in order to unlock Megabonk’s newest playable character, Roberto.
Where To Find Spooky Steve
You Need To Be As Strong As Possible First
To get to Spooky Steve, you first need to unlock the Graveyard map from the new Spooky Halloween update by finding and defeating “the undead boss” on Desert Tier 2 with Calcium. You’ll see a series of four different tombstones which you can interact with, defeat the colorful ghosts, and eventually summoning Calcium’s Dad, one of the new mini-bosses in Graveyard that acts much like the Stone Golems from the base game maps.
After unlocking Graveyard, you’ll experience a slightly different start than you’re used to, with each round beginning inside a crypt. These crypts are on limited timers and you’ll have just over a minute to “escape” the crypt before Spooky Steve automatically spawns. You’ll likely notice his absolutely massive health bar, and you do NOT want to try to take him on just yet.
To truly get to the point where you are ready to fight Spooky Steve, you first need to clear the entire Graveyard map and level your character up as much as possible, completing all four of the mini-bosses marked by the graves on your map and following the build guide below.
How To Defeat Spooky Steve
Best Build To Beat Spooky Steve
To take down Spooky Steve without getting insta-killed, the trick is to avoid taking damage by using Aegis and “freezing” Spooky Steve in place with Frostwalker’s effect and high Duration. Spooky Steve has 340 Undecillion health (that’s 1 followed by 36 zeros, or 10^36), and deals about 2 trillion damage on hit, so the only viable way to defeat him is with the “Execute” effect from Dexecutioner. See the full build below.

How To Beat Spooky Steve
Now that you’re fully set up for your run, there are a few key elements of the above build that need to come into play if you want to stand any chance at killing Spooky Steve. The strategy centers around triggering Dexecutioner’s Execute effect as much as possible by incorporating CC effects from Frostwalker, Black Hole, and crucially, Thunder Mitts.

Thunder Mitts are an essential aspect of this Megabonk build, as well as a Za Warudo, and will give you the best odds at slowing Spooky Steve and allowing Dexecutioner to do the heavy damage dealing. Projectile Count (Quantity Tome) and Attack Speed (Cooldown Tome) are absolutely essential, and you’ll need to have as many projectiles as you can muster to become nearly untouchable with the number of Aegis shields on your character.
Next, as you explore the Graveyard map you’ll notice that there are gravestones everywhere (duh) that you can interact with for +10% XP and +5% Difficulty, which make the XP and Difficulty Tomes redundant for the sake of beating Spooky Steve. Activate as many of these as you can and do your best to keep up in terms of damage, attack speed, duration, and projectile count. Duration is essential for slowing Spooky Steve with CC effects like those from Frostwalker.
You’ll also come across new statues that offer you various buff/debuff options, typically doubling one stat and halving another. Be careful with these, as you can potentially decrease the damage dealt to Spooky Steve depending on what you select. Anything that decreases max health or health regen is a safe bet since you aren’t going to be getting hit, and if you do, it’s over regardless.
Finally, you’ll want to farm the overtime hordes for a few minutes as well when time expires to beef up on as much XP and items as possible before entering the second crypt and fighting Spooky Steve.
Rewards For Defeating Spooky Steve
Collecting the right items is paramount, and you definitely need items such as Thunder Mitts, Lightning Orb, Ice Cube, etc., and multiple copies if possible. Further, you’ll want to banish any unnecessary items that you come across to increase your odds of getting the good stuff. You’ll more or less have to rely on Clovers or upgrades for Luck, though you can easily roll Legendary items with higher difficulty from the gravestones.
Once you actually get all of these pieces in place, you will be able to take Spooky Steve on and keep your fingers crossed you’ve done enough to prevent his attacks from getting through the Aegis shields. If that happens, you should have an opportunity to deplete his health quickly as he’ll be frozen from Za Warudo.
It’s likely Spooky Steve will take you a few tries to truly beat, and there’s no question he’s one of the hardest Megabonk bosses to date. Once you take him down, you’ll finally unlock the brand-new character, Roberto.
