Resident Alien Season 4, Episode 2 Review: I Laughed Out Loud Throughout, But I Wish The Episode Packed More Punch
Resident Alien season 4, episode 2 builds on the incredible comedy the show has become known for, but the story slows down considerably.
After the sheriff embraced the fact that aliens exist, this episode highlights how everyone is on a mission to confront the Grey invaders. Harry and D’Arcy look for ways to help Harry bargain for his alien self to be restored. Meanwhile, the Mayor and Kate get closer to the truth than ever before, while Max and Sahar’s alien-busting group becomes a point of contention in their friendship.
The Plot Thickens In Resident Alien Season 4, Episode 3
After last week’s episode barely scratched the surface in progressing the story, episode 3 makes some major progress. Harry is determined to become his old self again, and with the help of friends like D’Arcy, everything is set for him to get the technology the Grey’s want. However, nothing is ever so straightforward, and the complications that stand in his way appear to multiply with every minute that passes. As much as Harry wants to get back to his old self, this thread leads to some sweet moments in his progress toward better understanding humanity.
This episode has shifted the story drastically forward, with fun overlapping narratives, and great comedy beats throughout.
On the opposite end, there are several humans who are desperate to prove their theories right, while trying to keep their investigation secret from others in Patience. It’s a fun dynamic to see so many characters working towards the same goal, while struggling to trust each other and believing their theories would get them labeled as lunatics. There are plenty of fun and sharp moments as these characters collide.
Episode 3 also sees the Mantid’s story take a sudden turn, while revealing a major return for the show. All in all, this episode has shifted the story drastically in its forward momentum, with fun overlapping narratives and great comedy beats throughout. However, there was no real standout in the episode as the characters all appear to get equally short moments to shine ahead of their paths inevitably colliding.
Resident Alien Season 4 Is Shaping Up To Be The Biggest Yet
Less than halfway through the season, there is a lot to dig into. As mentioned above, the show is heading towards some major conflicts and confrontations between the residents of Patience. Right now, though, they all appear to be trying to avoid each other and maintain a level of secrecy. This is cleverly done in a satisfying way that feels authentic in its development.
It’s clear that Resident Alien season 4 is building towards some huge reveals as the season progresses.
Resident Alien season 4 is also leaning heavily into highlighting all the various characters and giving them individual moments to shine, which works well for characters like D’Arcy and Kate. However, this also highlights some characters who struggle to carry scenes without the larger talent. Specifically, Max’s arc and personality feel increasingly awkward, especially when contrasted against Sahar’s incredible wit.
Not everyone in the cast is on equal footing, but as previous seasons have shown, their chemistry together is a big part of the fun. Until the characters stop hiding from each other, and there are more moments where these people engage with each other, the overall flow is slightly stiff. Despite this, it’s clear that Resident Alien season 4 is building towards some huge reveals as the season progresses, and after episode 3, I am more excited than ever to see what happens next.
Resident Alien season 4 airs weekly every Friday at 11pm ET on Syfy and USA Network.
