If You Miss Supernatural, The Perfect Replacement Is A Hit Sci-Fi Show That's Almost As Long

If you’re still missing Supernatural, you should check out this similar show that will give you plenty to binge watch. Following brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester as they travel around the country hunting monsters, Supernatural ran for an impressive fifteen seasons on the CW.

Supernatural brilliantly combined monster-of-the-week episodes with season-long storylines, developing a complex mythology throughout its fifteen seasons. There are a lot of shows out there with elements that could appeal to Supernatural fans, but perhaps no show feels as much like Supernatural as The X-Files.

If You’re A Fan Of Supernatural, The X-Files Is The Perfect Show To Pick Up Next

Both Shows Have Amazing Characters & Mix Genres In Fun Ways

With its stories of cross-country monster hunting, Supernatural was heavily influenced by The X-Files, and even referenced the show in its pilot episode. The X-Files follows FBI Agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) as they handle the cases that are too strange for the regular FBI.

10 Best Episodes Of The X-Files

The best X-Files episodes include Monster of the Week and Alien mythology episodes, making it an iconic show.

Where many of Supernatural’s monsters come from folklore, The X-Files skews more paranormal, diving into conspiracy theories involving UFOs and alien abductions. Both shows blend horror, drama, and humor in fascinating ways, and both feature unforgettable characters you cannot help but fall in love with.

Several actors have appeared in both shows, including Mark Sheppard and Mitch Pileggi. A few crew members worked on both shows as well, most notably Kim Manners, who served as both a director and producer.

Several Supernatural episodes borrow ideas from episodes of The X-Files, from the more frightening stories like “Family Remains” (The X-Files: “Home”) to the hilarious ones like “Mystery Spot” (The X-Files: “Monday”). Like Supernatural, The X-Files combines standalone mysteries with season-long arcs, developing its own (sometimes convoluted) mythology.

The X-Files Is 11 Seasons, Giving Supernatural Fans Plenty To Watch

With 11 Seasons & 2 Movies, The X-Files Has Plenty Of Content

Few shows run as long as Supernatural, and a sixteenth season remains a distinct possibility, but The X-Files has plenty of content to keep you busy in the meantime. The X-Files initially aired from 1993 to 2002, delivering nine seasons (and a movie) of alien shenanigans and a will-they-won’t-they romance for the ages.

What Went Wrong With The X-Files Season 9? Why It’s The Show’s Most Divisive Installment

The X-Files season 9 is the lowest-rated out of any season of the acclaimed science fiction series so what exactly went so wrong with it?

The first X-Files movie, The X-Files: Fight the Future, premiered in theaters between seasons 5 and 6 and focused on the show’s ongoing mythology. A second film, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, premiered in theaters in 2008, delivering a standalone story but ultimately ending the series on a lackluster note.

Although X-Files creator Chris Carter had plans for a third film, I Want to Believe did not perform well enough at the box office to warrant a sequel.

In 2016, Agents Mulder and Scully returned yet again for more alien adventures in a revival that lasted for two seasons on Fox network. While the mythology aspects of these seasons were met with mixed reviews, they nevertheless delivered some incredibly fun episodes that are well worth watching.

Another X-Files reboot is currently in the works from Sinners director Ryan Coogler, proving that just like Supernatural, The X-Files refuses to stay dead for long.
