There is no denying that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is considered one of, if not the best, Zelda games of all time, so what better way to celebrate our love for it than by adapting the 1998 action-adventure game into, well, a completely new game?
Courtesy of developer Kenton M over on YouTube, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has now been transformed into The Legend of Zelda: Indigo and its gameplay teaser has left fans going wild.
The Legend Of Zelda: Indigo Looks Unbelievably Cool
As a ROM hack (a modified version of a video game) of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, The Legend of Zelda: Indigo takes place 27-years after the events of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask and offers players a unique new take set in the beloved Nintendo universe. In development since 2022 by Kenton M and their team, The Legend of Zelda: Indigo may not have a release date, but in a recent Devlog shared on their channel, Kenton M explains that it will definitely be released before Grand Theft Auto VI… maybe.
Whether you are a Zelda fan old or new, there is no denying that this project looks incredibly cool. Giving us a bearded Link is already giving Indigo the thumbs up and that’s not to mention the new animations afforded to our favorite adventurer. 50 new animations to be exact and one is “something you have never seen in a Zelda game before.”
This Takes Ocarina Of Time And Builds A Whole New Game
Players can also expect brand-new items and weapons along with a whole new dialogue system which aims to add a lot more realism to the vanilla, and often stunted dialogue, found in the original Ocarina of Time. “This is going to allow us to really lean into the story and side quests,” Kenton M explains. Not only that, but it will also support the developer’s goal to have player choices actually have an impact upon the world.
It is clear, just from this sneak peek of gameplay, that The Legend of Zelda: Indigo aims to turn Ocarina of Time into a whole new game but one that is still worthy of the most dedicated Zelda fan. From new villages to towns, NPC races to sword upgrade abilities and visual improvements, this is more than just a simple ROM hack and is clearly a labor of love from its team.
Unfortunately, The Legend of Zelda: Indigo does not yet have a release date after being delayed from its original 2025 window, but if you are interested, it is definitely worth keeping up with this project to see how it grows, and most importantly, when it launches.
