Before Bridgerton season 4 part 1 began streaming on Netflix, it had been two years since the previous season was released. But it’s been even longer since Netflix dropped the fan-favorite Bridgerton prequel spinoff series Queen Charlotte. After the fourth season’s subtle nod to the beloved spinoff, we’re naturally wondering whether season 2 is on the table.

The prequel hit our screens back in 2023 and was an immediate hit with Bridgerton fans, becoming one of the most-watched Netflix original series of all time for a brief period. While it’s entirely likely that Queen Charlotte will remain a standalone, one-and-done limited series, we can’t help but admit that we want more, especially after Lady Danbury looked longingly at their younger portrait.

Queen Charlotte season 2 hasn’t been announced by Netflix

Unfortunately, Queen Charlotte season 2 hasn’t been officially announced in any capacity by Netflix as of the release of Bridgerton season 4 in January 2026. Curiosity has led the subject being brought up with the limited series’ stars and creator over the years, but Netflix still hasn’t mentioned that a follow-up season of the successful prequel is in the works right now.

Upon the release of Bridgerton season 4 part 1, Radio Times spoke with Lady Danbury actress Adjoa Andoh about the portrait from the prequel appearing in the new season as a tease toward Queen Charlotte. Andoh confirmed that the portrait’s inclusion and Agatha staring at the painting was indeed a nod to the spinoff, but there might not be much more to it than that.

“You’ve got it, woo! First of all, I’m chuffed that you got that because it’s very delicately in there and not everybody will perhaps notice it. I think what it’s saying is ‘Do you remember, audience? Do you remember those young women?’ You see that remembrance and you understand the length of that friendship and all the vulnerabilities that were on display in that spin-off series. That series was a real gift to us and a real brilliant Shonda lightbulb flashing into our story,” Andoh told Radio Times.

Shonda Rhimes is “trying to figure out” Queen Charlotte season 2

Rumors previously swirled last summer that Queen Charlotte season 2 was in the works, but no formal announcements from Netflix has followed. Series star Corey Mylchreest responded to season 2 rumors in August 2025, saying that any rumors were “news to me” and that he wish he knew something but “I really don’t.”

Shonda Rhimes first spoke to the possibility of season 2 upon the prequel’s release in 2023, telling Deadline that she wasn’t “ruling anything out.” During that time, she admitted that she wasn’t “having conversations about it yet,” but in April 2024, Rhimes shared with Variety that she was having a conversation with Netflix and in the process of “trying to figure it out still.” Since then, there haven’t been any concrete indications that anything has moved forward in a positive way (yet).

Whether Queen Charlotte season 2 happens or not remains to be seen, but Bridgerton fans still have season 4 part 2 to look forward to on Feb. 26, as well as season 5 and season 6, which have both already been renewed and are in the works. Being as that the show has maintained its quality and popularity, there’s no telling what the future of the franchise — and other spinoffs — could hold.

Watch Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte only on Netflix.
