Jane Levy’s Surprising Connection to 2 Hit Comedy Shows [Exclusive]

In the world of television, some things are simply meant to be. During the latest episode of Collider Ladies Night, Perri Nemiroff sat down with the immensely talented Jane Levy to discuss her role in the new highly rated dramedy A Little Prayer, opposite David Strathairn. Nemiroff often speaks future projects into existence with her guests, and with Levy, it seems the stars may already be aligned. When speaking about her time on the comedy series Suburgatory, Levy mentioned wanting a role in another comedy, telling Collider:

“I still want another job like Suburgatory. First of all, working on comedies is the best thing. People often ask me, ‘Is it actually scary when you shoot a horror film?’ It’s like, ‘No, no.’ I mean, it’s exhausting and taxing, and your nervous system definitely gets, like, zing, zing, zing, but you’re not scared. But on comedy, it’s actually funny and fun, and it just feels like, especially right now, what could be better than going to work and laughing, and then bringing joy into people’s homes on their TV or through a movie?”

Naturally, Nemiroff followed up by recommending two of the best comedy shows on television right now: Ghosts and Hazbin Hotel. Much to her surprise, Levy revealed that she’s actually already been in conversation with both shows. Pulling out her phone to confirm, Levy said, “I think they asked me to be in Ghosts.” However, Levy revealed she couldn’t commit to the series when they initially asked because she was just one month postpartum​​​​​​. Levy then confirmed, “Oh, I have an audition for Hazbin Hotel. I knew it! […] Okay, so you’re a witch. By the way, my audition was due 12 days ago, and I didn’t do it.” When Nemiroff told her to go for Hazbin Hotel anyway despite the late audition, Levy went on to say:

“I’m sorry agents and I’m sorry casting directors of Hazbin Hotel. I got an audition for this, and then I’m pretty sure they asked me to be on Ghosts, and I couldn’t do it because I’d just had a baby.”

What It’s Like Working on ‘Ghosts’ as a New Mom

While we don’t know if Levy will get another chance to appear on Ghosts, Nemiroff confirmed that the on-set environment is ideal for new mothers. Both series lead Rose McIver and the hilarious Sheila Carrasco appeared on Collider Ladies Night for Season 4, and spoke about their experiences having each had a baby on either end of Season 3. McIver told Nemiroff that she’s particularly “proud of the work-life balance” and being able to be deeply involved in her daughter’s life while continuing the “dream” work she gets to do on Ghosts. Similarly, when Carrasco needed time off from the series for her own pregnancy, she told Nemiroff, “I never felt more supported. It was incredible.” She also spoke about how much love she received not only from her cast and the writers, but everyone on the crew, saying:

“Production did everything from helping me set up the AirBNB I had rented with all the things that I had ordered, putting together the changing table and the crib so we could just land on from the plane. […] And then getting to set and costumes had made my top completely snapped down. And that’s a really complicated top to re-figure cause it’s all crocheted so that I could pump or breastfeed when I needed to. […] they were so supportive in giving me the space and the time I needed. Everything was truly my decision. When I came back to work, how I came back to work. And then the fact that they were able to write it so well into the script that like no one even knew why I was gone and that it was for that reason, it just made sense story wise. So that was all fantastic.”
