Jason Momoa & Dave Bautista's Forgotten Sci-Fi Show Is Having A Streaming Resurgence On Apple TV+

A forgotten Apple TV+ series starring Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista is having something of a resurgence on streaming. The oft-forgotten science fiction drama series See was one of the first Apple TV+ original programs. It, along with The Morning Show, For All Mankind, and Dickinson, was the opening salvo of a streamer announcing its entry into the original prestige TV drama arena. Despite high hopes, See did not become the massive hit the streamer probably hoped for, and after ending in 2022 after three seasons, it was all but forgotten.

However, recently, See has been rising in the viewing rankings in the last couple of days. According to CBR, See is on Apple TV+’s top ten streaming chart this week. It is currently sitting at number ten on the chart globally, having risen as high as seven on global charts beginning on June 12. Your Friends and Neighbors, Severance, Ted Lasso, and The Studio have also made it onto the list. See is the oldest show on the list, with a premiere date a year earlier than the next oldest show, Ted Lasso.

What See’s Ranking Means For Apple TV+

The Bad Reviews From Season 1 May Have Turned People Off When It Premiered

The finale for See season 3 premiered on October 14, 2022, to little fanfare, and the show seemed to be quickly forgotten afterward. However, the recent rise in viewership for See could suggest that there was never any problem with the program’s content; it just did not, for whatever reason, have an audience ready to view it when it started. On Rotten Tomatoes, the first season has a 44% and was critiqued for its over-reliance on gore, and how the convoluted narrative blurred the solid acting from the ensemble cast.

Apple TV+ Losing $1 Billion A Year As Streaming Budget Reportedly Revealed

Despite boasting popular shows like Severance and Ted Lasso, a new report says Apple TV+ is shockingly losing $1 billion per year on streaming.

However, season 2 has an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, and while the third season does not have a score, reviews suggest that it continued the series’ upward trajectory. When the show first premiered, viewers were probably turned off from See thanks to the inconsistent first season. As it came from a new streamer, viewers likely didn’t have enough trust to stick with the series and see how it turned out. Now, it seems, with viewers understanding that the show gets better, they seem happy to give it a chance.

Our Take On See’s Resurgence On The Apple TV+ Charts

Apple TV+ Users Are Interested In The Streamer’s Back Catalog

This rise of See to the top ten list could suggest that Apple TV+ is entering a new era of its streaming. It is no longer the new kid on the block, and users are now going into the back catalog of shows and finding things they’re interested in. This is a very good signal for Apple TV+ because it suggests their users are not leaving the app when they can’t find a new title to watch. Instead, they’re willing to dig through the Apple TV+ library to find their new show.

Netflix, HBO, and the other major streamers have survived in part thanks to their back catalogs being worth subscribing for.

Netflix, HBO, and the other major streamers have survived in part thanks to their back catalogs being worth subscribing for. New shows are great, and necessary to keeping a streamer relevant, but having a stable of solid original series and movies that will keep subscribers’ attention between premieres is just as important. It seems that Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista’s See could be a sign of the streamer settling in as a legacy platform.
