Jensen Ackles Hopes For Countdown Season 2 After Cliffhanger Finale

Warning! This review contains SPOILERS for Countdown season 1, episode 13.After the massive cliffhanger in the Countdown season 1 finale, Jensen Ackles provides an update on season 2. Countdown is a Prime Video show that follows an LAPD detective who is brought in with undercover agents onto a covert task force to find the murderer after a Department of Homeland Security officer is killed.

In an interview with Variety, Ackles, who portrays Mark Meachum, spoke about how he hopes to see a second season of Countdown, and praised the writers of the show for wrapping the story up the way they did. He spoke about Countdown’s season one cliffhanger, and how it ended in such a way that season 2 is needed. See his comments below:

I think it was a smart writer choice to kind of wrap up the Season 1 storyline with three episodes to go. It gave Derek an opportunity to start building towards a next big case and a next big sendoff, and it obviously leaves Season 1 ending on a huge cliffhanger. I think it was designed to lead into Season 2, so fingers crossed Amazon is still liking what they’re seeing, and the audience participation and the critics talking about it give us enough firepower to continue that story and see where this goes. Obviously, it would suck if it just ends there!

Ackles is obviously hoping for a second season, and although season 2 is not confirmed, there are hopes among the Countdown cast and the crew that it will be picked up by Prime Video so they can continue the story that they have been telling.

At the end of Countdown season 1, Meachum and Amber Oliveras finally have their moment, which the whole season has been leading up to, but it is short-lived, as the audience is left wondering if Oliveras is going to be killed by Todd after she was captured.

The second season would have to pick up where season one left off, and answer many of the unresolved questions. The cliffhanger of the first season sets the stage for many potential storylines to be carried out, and all could be fascinating. It is important that season 2 dives into Oliveras’ fate, and answers whether someone will interfere before Todd kills her.

It is always nice to hear the actors rooting for their show to carry on. Without the actors wanting to do more of the show, there would not even be a possibility of a second season at all. Of course, it is not up to any of the cast, but given that Ackles is openly speaking out about it, it is hopeful.

Along with that, the fact that season 1 leaves the audience on such an intense cliffhanger shows that the intention was to leave room for season 2 and would hopefully be picked up. Countdown might not have a season 2 confirmed yet, but with members of the cast such as Ackles speaking up on its behalf, there is more than a possibility that it will happen in the future.
