Transitioning from one season to the next can be rough, but with a genre-crossing star like Kiefer Sutherland leading the charge, things become a lot easier. With Halloween in our rearview mirrors and the holiday season afoot, we look to The Lost Boys star for inspiration about how to fully embrace the shift. Thankfully, in his upcoming movie, Tinsel Town, Sutherland will do just that. Today, as part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview event, we’ve got a first-look image of the Chris Foggin (Bank of Dave) directed film that showcases Sutherland’s washed-up action star, Bradley Mack, who’s on a quest for familial redemption during the season that promises goodwill to all men.
Standing in the center of a stage in front of a sprawling audience, Sutherland’s character, Bradley, can be seen with a microphone in one hand while the other has a death grip on a giant stuffed snowman. Looking a bit unhinged, it seems like the festive spirit has caught up with the ex-star, as he addresses the folks standing out in the crowd.
Our exclusive image stays in line with what we already know about the film, thanks to its synopsis. With Sutherland’s character at the center of the story, we know that the movie will see the one-time star travel to a small English village where he’ll try to fix the broken bond with his estranged daughter. Using his background in the arts as his guide, Bradley will help the town put together their Christmas pageant and re-learn the true meaning of the season. Along the way, he’ll join forces with a strong-willed and opinionated choreographer (Rebel Wilson) and get to know the members of the community who eagerly look to him for acting pointers.
Meet the Team Behind ‘Tinsel Town’
In addition to Sutherland and Wilson, Tinsel Town, which is co-penned by Frazer Flintham, Adam Brown, Piers Ashworth and Jake Brunger, will also include performances from Derek Jacobi (Gladiator), Maria Friedman (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat), Mawaan Rizwan (Two Weeks To Live), Jason Manford (Starstruck), Danny Dyer (The Football Factory), Ray Fearon (My Fault: London), Asim Chaudhry (People Just Do Nothing) and Lucien Laviscount (Emily in Paris). The project is the latest holiday-themed one that its director, Foggin, has stepped up to helm, having previously paired with Alfred Enoch and Kaya Scodelario on the Sky Cinema film, This Is Christmas. The holiday comedy flick is produced by Matt Williams and Pascal Degove.
