Landman Season 2 Needs To Move Tommy Norris' Family To Fort Worth

Landman set up a big change for Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) and his family that has to happen more than ever after season 2, episode 4. The Norris family reluctantly gathered for the funeral of Tommy’s mother, and it set up another seismic shift for Tommy’s living situation in Midland, Texas.

The increasingly ridiculous full house in Midland has become a running joke in Landman. Tommy originally lived in his rented home with attorney Nate (Colm Feore) and Dale Bradley (James Jordan). The three employees of M-Tex had a good thing going on in what was essentially a multi-bedroom man cave.

In Landman season 1, Tommy’s teenage daughter Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) came to stay in Midland and never left. Instead, Ainsley was soon joined by Tommy’s ex-wife, Angela (Ali Larter). Nate and Dale have been forced to bite their tongues and nod politely at the distractions Ainsley causes and the dinner destruction Angela wreaks.

T.L. Norris Moving In Means Tommy Has To Get A New House In Fort Worth

Landman season 2, episode 4, “Dancing Rainbows,” ends with the surprise of Tommy acquiescing to Angela’s request that he invite his elderly father, T.L. Norris (Sam Elliott), to come and live with them. T.L. agreed, and the Midland house is about to get even fuller, necessitating the Norris family’s move to Fort Worth.

In Landman season 2, episode 3, Angela joined Tommy in Fort Worth to shop for a new family home. Angela wanted a new house closer to Texas Christian University, where Ainsley is going to college. Nothing was settled about buying a house yet, but T.L. coming to live with his family makes a move to Fort Worth even more urgent.

Since the Norris family hasn’t bought a new house yet, T.L. is coming to Midland with Tommy. Landman hasn’t shown Nate and Dale’s reaction, or whether Tommy even told them, but the oldest and surliest Norris moving in will be to Dale and Nate’s chagrin.

Nate and Dale joined the Norris family at Tommy’s mother’s funeral to support their friend and boss. Their drive to Canadian, Texas was the usual tense ordeal, with Angela dominating the radio and Tommy stewing in his resentment of his mother. Little could Nate and Dale have known Tommy would add another Norris to the Midland house’s woes.

Tommy’s Family Becomes Even More Important In Landman Season 2

Landman balances its narrative between Tommy’s troubles as a landman and as M-Tex’s new President, and the rest of the Norris family. Although prodigal son Cooper Norris (Jacob Lofland) is also in the oil business, Angela and Ainsley’s adventures often feel disconnected.

Landman season 2 has done a stellar job of deepening the Norris family’s dynamics and revealing more about Tommy’s life. Tommy’s father coming to live with his family means T.L. can get to know his two grandchildren, and perhaps tell more family secrets.

Meanwhile, Landman tacitly hints that T.L. has wisdom to share as a former oilman with decades of experience. Tommy doesn’t yet realize he needs all the help he can get as Gallino (Andy Garcia) quietly finds ways to ingratiate himself into M-Tex, possibly to buy it out or take over Cami Miller’s (Demi Moore) company.

T.L. Norris moving in with his family also means plenty more Landman scenes between Sam Elliott, Billy Bob Thornton, Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, and Jacob Lofland, as well as Colm Feore and James Jordan, to look forward to.
