It’s been a few months since Netflix announced the Leanne season 2 renewal, but we finally have an exciting update to share with fans of the sitcom! While many details about the upcoming new season have yet to be revealed, such as casting updates and storylines, we now know when cameras begin rolling. That gives us a much better idea of when to expect the season 2 release date.
According to the live-taping ticketing website 1iota, Leanne season 2 begins filming on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, with six total tapings scheduled on Fridays through Feb. 27. The tapings kick off at 4:30 p.m. PT at the Warner Bros. Studios lot in Burbank, California and are available to attend for those 18 years old and older. Since only six tapings have been scheduled, more are likely to be announced.
When Netflix announced that Leanne Morgan’s sitcom had been renewed for a second season, the streamer didn’t reveal how many episodes there would be in season 2. The first season contained 16 episodes that dropped all at once, which is basically unheard of for Netflix these days. We’re hoping that season 2 will also feature 16 episodes, which could push back the release date.

Leanne season 2 begins filming in January 2026
Based on the information we have so far about the Leanne season 2 filming schedule, there are a few theories that could suggest when Netflix plans to drop the season. There’s a chance that Netflix ordered 12 episodes in season 2 with the intention of releasing it in two six-episode parts. That could be the reason why only six episodes are available to request tickets for on the 1iota website.
However, there’s also the possibility that Leanne season 2 has a full 16-episode order and 10 more episode tapings will be added to 1iota at a later date. If Netflix did in fact match the season 1 order and plans to also release the episodes all at once, that would set the release date back from another summer drop and push the sitcom into fall 2026 or closer to the end of the year, though the turnaround time tends to be much faster for multi-cam sitcoms.
But if the streamer has pivoted to a 12-episode season with a two-part drop, then Leanne season 2 could still be on pace for a summer 2026 return with the first half of its season and a possible drop for part 2 before the year ends. It’s worth noting that these are merely predictions formed around the limited information that was revealed in the new update and there are many variables in play.
The most important takeaway is that Leanne season 2 begins filming in January 2026 and new episodes will be on the way sometime next year, likely exactly when we hoped for — within a year of season 1.
