'Lilo & Stitch 2' Officially Sets Release Date Following Remake's $1B Box Office Domination

Disney had plenty of big office hits in 2025 with several Marvel movies, more animated hits, and live-action reimaginings of some all-time animated classics. One of the biggest financial success stories to emerge was the live-action Lilo & Stitch movie, which premiered in theaters on May 23 last year. Disney sunk a $100 million investment in the live-action version of Lilo & Stitch, which proved to be smart when the film grossed over $1 billion at the global box office. It was the first movie of the year to reach this height, but it was later surpassed by Zootopia 2, which is now one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. Disney announced last year that it was moving forward with a live-action Lilo & Stitch sequel, which wasn’t surprising considering the film did so well in theaters.

Updates about the new Lilo & Stitch sequel have been quiet for a while now. Although it was confirmed that animation savant Chris Sanders would return and both reprise his role as Stitch and write the film, plot details are still being kept under wraps. Maia Keoloha has also confirmed that she will return and play Lilo in the film, which has now been set for release on May 26, 2028. That’s right Lilo & Stitch fans, you still have two full years to wait until the next movie hits the big screen, even though it’s already been almost a full year since the first live-action film hit theaters. Getting schedules in line and working on animation and VFX takes time, but a three-year gap isn’t something fans are going to be happy with. Disney also announced that the long-awaited Incredibles 3 will premiere less than one month later, on June 16, 2028.

What’s Streaming on Disney+ Right Now?

The first live-action Lilo & Stitch movie is currently streaming on Disney+, and while it’s left streaming charts for now, it was one of the biggest hits of 2025 upon its arrival. The most successful movie on Disney+ right now is the aforementioned Zootopia 2, which dethroned Predator: Badlands to reach the top spot. Zootopia 2 grossed $1.8 billion at the box office, making it one of the top 10 highest-grossing movies ever. The most popular show on Disney+ right now is Paradise, which is available on Hulu for Disney+ subscribers in America.
