Lupin season 3 release updates, cast, and everything we know so far

It’s been a long time since we’ve shared any major updates about Lupin season 3. Luckily, we have some news to share about the series as we move closer to the Lupin season 3 release date on Netflix.

Lupin is one of the best Netflix shows of the last few years, and it’s definitely the best French Netflix original series so far. The series premiered on Netflix in January 2021, and the second season was added a few months later in the summer of 2021. Since then, fans have been waiting for news about the new season.

Netflix confirmed Lupin season 3 was happening shortly after the second season ended. And, fans got a look at the new season at TUDUM 2022.

We’ll share more updates about Lupin season 3 in this story as they come up. The latest update was on March 2, 2023.

Lupin season 3 teaser

Netflix shared the first look at Lupin season 3 in September 2022 during Netflix’s TUDUM event. The teaser trailer, which we shared below, reveals what’s next for Assane Diop (Omar Sy) following the events of the first season.

In the teaser, we see Sy as Diop revealing where season 3 begins and what his mission is for the season:

“I avenged my father. I had to protect my family. I wanted to stay in the dark, but had to come back into the light. Now, watch me disappear.

Diop is still one of the most wanted men in France, and it appears the country is split on if he’s the hero of this story for taking down a corrupt police chief and a billionaire or if he’s a villain for the crimes he’s committed.

Has Netflix announced the Lupin season 3 release date yet?

Netflix confirmed Lupin season 3 will be released in 2023.

Unfortunately, Netflix has not revealed the official release date yet. It looks like fans were hoping the new season would arrive early in 2023 because that’s when the show premiered on Netflix back in 2021. That’s not going to happen. Netflix shared the list of what’s new in March 2023, and Lupin was not on the list.

So, that’s the bad news. The good news, though, is that the teaser ends with “Coming Soon.” Obviously, the teaser is from September, and we still haven’t seen the new season, but that’s a good thing, not a bad thing. It means that the new season is much sooner to coming to Netflix than it was back in September.

So far in 2023, there haven’t been many updates about Lupin season 3. As mentioned, Netflix announced the new season was coming to Netflix in 2023, so it’s just a matter of when Netflix will reveal the official release date.

We always like to make predictions for the release dates of Netflix shows. While we haven’t heard much yet, I think we’ll see Lupin season 3 in the spring or summer of 2023. Netflix doesn’t have much lined up for April or May 2023 yet.

If the series doesn’t arrive then, I would be surprised if Netflix doesn’t announce the Lupin season 3 release date within the next two months. It’s been too long!

There’s no doubt Lupin season 3 is one of the best Netflix shows coming in 2023.

Release Prediction: April 2023

Lupin season 3 cast

Thanks to the teaser, we already know some of the characters who will be back in Lupin season 3. We shared the full season 3 cast list that we know so far below!

  • Omar Sy as Assane Diop
  • Soufiane Guerrab as Youssef Guedira, also known as Ganimard
  • Ludivine Sagnier as Claire
  • Etan Simon as Raoul
  • Antoine Gouy as Benjamin Ferel
  • Vincent Londez as Captain Romain Laugier
  • Shirine Boutella as Lt. Sofia Belkacem

Although they have not been confirmed, we are also expecting to see these characters in season 3 in some capacity:

  • Hervé Pierre as Hubert Pellegrini
  • Clotilde Hesme as Juliette Pellegrini
  • Fargass Assandé as Babakar
  • Vincent Garanger as Commissioner Gabriel Dumont

We’re also expecting to see a lot of new characters in season 3. We haven’t seen much confirmed, but we do know that Creator George Kay told Metro there will be new characters but also confirmed the main cast should stay the same.

‘It’ll be a fresh start in Part 3 with new characters, retaining a lot of the regular cast, but with a new branch of characters.”

What’s next in Lupin season 3?

At the end of Lupin season 2, investigators, with A LOT of help from Assane were able to collect enough evidence to arrest Pellegrini and Dumont for their various crimes, including framing Babakar Diop for stealing the necklace. Assane finally accomplished his mission: clear his father’s name. In the process, though, he’s created a situation that’s much more difficult to manage.

There’s a manhunt for him in France, and he’s still wanted for his crimes. Unfortunately, that likely means he hasn’t had much contact with his son, Raoul, and Claire.

We also know, thanks to Kay’s other comments, that the new season is turning the page on the story of the first two seasons. We’re getting a new story in season 3 with new characters, and a new mission for Assane. From the teaser, it looks like he’s lying low, but we know things won’t stay that way for long.

Here’s what Kay told Metro about what’s to come:

‘It won’t be so focused on Babaker [Assane’s late father], even though he will remain an important, emotional crutch in his memory for Assane. It’ll be different stuff, and it won’t be so focused on Pellegrini.’

Obviously, there’s a lot of inspiration from Maurice Leblanc’s book series and stories about Arsene Lupin. We will likely Assane use Lupin’s tricks from the stories to make moves and get himself out of trouble.

We’ll have more updates about Lupin season 3 coming to Netflix soon!
