man’s Wife'Sakamoto Days’ Live-Action Adaptation Casts a Major Role

The live-action Sakamoto Days movie has found the loving wife of the legendary hitman. Japanese actress Aya Ueto, who has dubbed a handful of notable films, will be joining Japanese idol Ren Meguro, who has been cast to play Aoi Sakamoto. The live-action feature is scheduled to be released during Japan’s 2026 Golden Week, but a Western release date has yet to be announced.

The official Sakamoto Days live-action film released a new poster, revealing not only Ueto but also Miyu Yoshimoto, who’s cast as their daughter, Hana Sakamoto. Ueto has worked on numerous Japanese projects, but she has also done voice dubbing for films such as Disney’s Return to Neverland as Jane, 2009’s Astro Boy as Atom, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse as Bella Swan, and the live-action Maleficent films as Princess Aurora.

Ueto released a comment following the casting announcement, stating that this would be the first time she would be working with Meguro, and that after reading the manga, she was “instantly drawn” to Sakamoto Days. Additionally, she hopes Aio’s warmth and her scenes would add some comedic elements to the overall project.

What Is ‘Sakamoto Days’ About?

Based on the ongoing manga series of the same name by Yuto Suzuki, Sakamoto Days follows Taro Sakamoto, a legendary hitman who has retired after falling in love with Aio. Five years after his retirement, a huge bounty was placed on his head, and it’s up to him and his allies to find out who was behind it, while also not breaking the family rule of “No Killing” or risk divorce.

Before this film’s announcement, an anime adaptation was released on Netflix, comprising 22 episodes that covered the first four story arcs. Starring in the English dub of the anime are Matthew Mercer as Taro Sakamoto, Dallas Liu as Shin Asakura, Rosalie Chiang as Lu Shaoutang, Rosie Okumura as Aoi Sakamoto, and Grace Lu as Hana Sakamoto.

As of writing, the plot for the live-action adaptation has yet to be revealed, and only a teaser trailer and character posters have been released. Also starring in the feature as Shin Asakura is Fumiya Takahashi, known for his roles in the Kamen Rider Zero-One franchise.

The live-action adaptation of Sakamoto Days is set to debut in Japanese theaters in 2026. In the meantime, Season 1 of Sakamoto Days is available to stream on Netflix. Follow Collider for the latest updates.
