Max Mayfield Wields Eleven’s Powers In Stranger Things Poster Art

Max Mayfield takes center stage in a new piece of Stranger Things season 5 poster art, which imagines her wielding Eleven’s telekinetic powers. First introduced in the Netflix show’s season 2, Sadie Sink’s Max would eventually become a core member of the Stranger Things cast, returning in last year’s season 4 to do battle against Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower). Although Max played a bigger role than ever before last season, the final episode sees the character in a coma after an encounter with the villain left her blinded and with multiple broken limbs.

Now, as the wait for news on Stranger Things season 5 drags on, artist Sonnyfive on Instagram has shared a new mock poster for the upcoming batch of episodes, imagining Max having inherited some of Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) abilities. Check out the art below:

In addition to Max, who is seemingly still blind, the poster hypes Vecna, a Demogorgon, and the Mind Flayer as major villains, with protagonists Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Steve (Joe Keery), Nancy (Natalie Dyer), and Robin (Maya Hawke) also shown ready for action.

What Will Happen To Sadie Sink’s Max In Stranger Things Season 5?

The Stranger Things season 4 ending leaves Max in quite a precarious state, with creators the Duffer Brothers previously confirming to Deadline that the finale leaves her “brain dead, blind, and all of her bones are broken.” While this is certainly a grim way to leave her fate hanging, the fact that Max remains alive at the end of the season is a strong indication that she still has a role to play in the events to come. It seems unlikely, after all, that Max’s life was spared only for her to die in season 5 without at least waking up first.

The finale sees Eleven defeat Vecna, but he too remains alive as the Upside Down begins its advance into the real world. With Bower’s villain all but guaranteed to return, one theory posits that Max could actually be used as a vessel for Vecna in Stranger Things season 5. A part of Vecna could remain inside the dark recesses of Max’s mind after his attack, the theory states, and he could potentially commandeer her brain-dead body and use it against Eleven.

It’s also possible, of course that a far less sinister fate awaits Max, and that Eleven somehow uses her powers to fully revive her out of the coma. Stranger Things season 5 is also expected to feature a time jump, meaning that Max may be able to emerge from her coma with her broken bones having substantially healed. It remains to be seen how Max will figure into the Netflixs show’s final episodes, but wielding Eleven’s powers would certainly make for an exciting comeback for the character.
