With a new version of the sports drama in the works, Michael B. Jordan shares his thoughts on a potential Friday Night Lights reboot appearance. Jordan, who is best known for his frequent collaborations with Ryan Coogler on everything from the Creed and Black Panther movies to the upcoming Sinners, first rose to prominence in The Wire as Wallace. He would subsequently find further success on the small screen, playing the role of quarterback Vince Howard in the final two seasons of Friday Night Lights from 2009-11.
In an interview with GQ in which he discussed his most iconic roles, Jordan covered Friday Night Lights and talked about his interest in appearing in the potential reboot of the show. He revealed that he would be open to the idea of appearing in an episode of the reboot, explaining that because he joined the cast in season 4, and wasn’t in it from the start, he would feel better about popping back into a new version of the show. Check out Jordan’s comments below:
If they was doing Friday Night Lights over, like the show, I would pop in for an episode. I would. Yeah, I would, I would. I think I feel that way more than I do with The Wire, because I was part of the original cast. I think the fact that I came in season 4 of FNL, I feel like if they did a reboot, I feel like, all right, I can come get in this world. I’m cool with that.
The Star Could Be Open To A Return
Jordan’s comments should be exciting for those interested in a Friday Night Lights reboot show, and suggest that the actor is enthusiastic about revisiting the franchise at some point. Jordan being open to a return for the sports drama reboot seems like it has a lot to do with the fact that he does not feel too attached to the original series in the way he did with The Wire, where he was in the show from the start. The nostalgia element does not appear to be there when it comes to Friday Night Lights.
Friday Night Lights will always have an important role in Jordan’s career trajectory, but his status as a prominent movie star now makes a return to the franchise unlikely.
However, it should be noted that Jordan does seem to have genuine nostalgia for Friday Night Lights, and his love of the series that helped him make his name could result in a return for the in-development reboot. Whilst it is unclear whether there will be a place in the reboot to bring back legacy characters like Vince, following the conclusion of Friday Night Lights season 5, knowing that a star as big as Jordan would be open to a return means that there is a good chance the writers will find a way to bring the character back.
Our Take On The Chances Of Jordan’s Return To Friday Night Lights
He May Have A Desire To Revisit It, But There Are A Lot Of Factors To Consider
Jordan might have an interest in returning for an episode of the Friday Night Lights reboot show, but any return from the star is far from a guarantee at this point. Jordan’s move into directing, having helmed the hit Creed 3 and having previously been reported to return for Creed 4, coupled with his rising profile as a leading man, could make it difficult to find room in his schedule for a return. Friday Night Lights will always have an important role in Jordan’s career trajectory, but his status as a prominent movie star now makes a return unlikely.
